The Board of Directors of the Upper Midwest Flute Association recently received notification from Martha Jamsa of her decision to resign as an UMFA Executive Board member. Martha served last year as Co-President and was to have been President for this coming year. Martha's contributions to UMFA during the past year were extensive and extremely helpful for the organization. The board appreciates Martha's honest evaluation of what her schedule this next year will permit, thus making her resignation decision now - prior to when events will be underway for the coming year. We sincerely thank Martha for her awesome conducting of the Honors Flute Choirs at Flute Fest 2009, for handling Flute Fest email inquiries, contacting volunteers and event participants, various tasks for both Flute Fest and Flute Choir Showcase, for helpful input and ideas at board meetings and through UMFA board email communication, for assistance in establishing the calendar of events, for help in developing position descriptions and for chairing some of the UMFA board meetings.
The UMFA By-Laws state: "The Executive Board may fill vacancies until the next election." Decision was reached this week by the Executive Board for Jennifer Kennard to serve this coming year as President (rather than as Vice President), for Jenny Hanson to serve as Vice President (rather than as Secretary), and for Libby Laufers to serve as Secretary (rather than Activities Chair). The Executive Board is now in the process of contacting possible candidates to fill the Activities Chair position's term which would be for one year, but could be extended if the person chose to continue for the succeeding term (next election). If you would be interested or willing to serve as UMFA Board Activities Chair (or know someone who might be) please contact Jennifer Kennard at
612-825-2358 or
kennard...@gmail.com. There is a position description available and the board meets once a month, plus Libby Laufers would be able to "show you the ropes" and assist initially.
Out of courtesy this notification is being emailed to UMFA membership on August 6, 2010 and will also be mentioned in the Fall newsletter.
Jennifer Kennard, UMFA President
