KEY NOTE PERFORMANCES lecture –recital series
Dr. Jennifer Kennard, flute with Joanne Minnetti, piano Saturday, April 18, 2009 FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
”A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME (as seen by a flutist)” DR. JENNIFER KENNARD will present an afternoon of flute music, highlighting some of the major musical milestones through the solo flute repertoire. The journey through time begins with the Renaissance and the music of Marin Marais, moves through the Baroque (when flute was the instrument de rigueur of princes and kings) with a piece by George Friedrich Handel, and continues on to the music of Mozart and the Classical Era. The Twentieth Century was a time of tremendous growth and change; this is reflected in music through the many types of compositions composers were creating. Works by composers as disparate as Claude Debussy and Robert Dick will be explored and performed. ----------------- Madeline Cieslak Director ST.
