Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to give you a heads up about a great event Pick Up America is putting on as a fundraiser on Friday.  I know it's last minute, but I would definately check it out.  What they're doing is amazing, and I thought you might be interested.

Happy March!

Hi Non-Profit Friends,
We are having our big fundraiser on Friday and are presently amping up our fundraising campaign for 2011. Thus far, we've raised about 10% of what we expect we'll need to get across the country. It would be great if you could help us get the word out about our fundraiser at the Washington Ethical Society in DC on Friday. I know it's very short notice, but whatever you all can do (post it on your website, email folks you know would be supportive, email your colleagues about the event, etc.) to support us will surely amplify the movement we are all a part of.

We are also being featured on a new crowd sourced fundraising site called start some good that just launched yesterday. If you could help get our donate to us page out to folks it'd really help us a lot.

Below is the email about our fundraising drive. Thank You!! I hope you're doing well!!

    All the Best,
     Davey

Dear Friends,

You are receiving this letter because you are known by the Pick Up Artists as a cherished family member, family friend, old friend, new friend, fellow environmental activist, or some combination thereof. Maybe this is the first time you are hearing of Pick Up America, a coast-to-coast trash pickup across the United States to raise awareness about the zero waste movement. Maybe you have had to listen to someone talk about it incessantly for weeks. Either way, we are about a month away from our departure. So, we're throwing a fundraiser in DC before we leave. Hope you can make it!!

Year two of Pick Up America begins in Ripley, Ohio on March 21, 2011, with the following travelers:

Davey Rogner Campaign Director – seasoned campus activist ready for his second year of planning the route, balancing the budget, making webcasts, and tracking statistics

Jeff Chen Director of Digital Media – the dreamer behind the trip, ready for year two of picking up trash, editing the blog, making videos, and managing www.PickUpAmerica.org

Johnna Jackson Education Director – our southern belle, busy developing engaging and informative programming for the little ones

Lily Berman Events and Outreach Director – experienced political organizer ready for an adventure and some grassroots activism

Nikita Beniaminov Arts Director – sculptor with a passion for trees ready to coordinate some giant recycled art projects along the route

Greg Katski Public Relations Director – former reporter ready to exponentially multiply our press coverage

Mark Chavez Waste Vegetable Oil Director – veteran adventurer converting the bus away from fossil fuels

Our Origin Story: Pick Up America began in Jeff’s mind while interning at a national park. He couldn’t believe how much litter surrounded him, even in such a sacred and protected space. So, he resolved to walk across the country, picking up the litter, and making short videos to get his message out. In January 2010, Jeff and Davey, two college friends from the University of Maryland, began the planning. Two months later, with two additional travelers, Kim and Kelly, they began to Pick Up America. Between March and November, the four travelers coordinated 735 miles of roadside cleanup. In total, the Pick Up Artists and 250+ volunteers removed over 73,000 pounds of trash. They co-hosted 70 events, spoke at 40 schools, and appeared in countless news stories.

2011- Rockin’ the Midwest: We’re really excited about some of the changes for 2011. First, we have a larger and more specialized team to improve our outreach efforts. Second, our emphasis this year is on zero waste coalition building between watershed groups and other community groups, leaving communities more active and unified. Third, we’re now a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. That means donations are tax-deductible.

We have big plans for 2011, but the truth is that Pick Up America works because of the people who believe in us. We've projected our 2011 budget to be $50,000. So far, we've raised about 10 percent. Please take a look at the enclosed document about how you can become a part of our movement.

Sincerely,

Davey Rogner
