UMD student leaders,

Please forward this to your organizations and fill this out yourself in support of a statewide Good Samaritan Policy which would give medical amnesty from criminal prosecution for drug possession to someone who seeks medical attention for an overdose and for the "Good Samaritan" who calls for help.

The bill has been renamed "Danny's Law," directly after Danny Reardon, who overdosed on alcohol in 2002 on our campus because his friends were afraid to call for help.

Please do your part to prevent this from happening again.

You Can Make a Difference

Dear Irina,

Last week in the Maryland legislature, our witnesses told heartbreaking stories about loved ones lost because of alcohol and drug overdoses -- and lives saved because of the quick action of good Samaritans. And guess what? The legislators listened.

Thank you! Your calls and emails made a big difference. Now we can make sure they vote the right way to save lives by sending a message to Maryland legislators.

Danny's Bill is named in honor of Daniel Reardon, Jr., who died at the University of Maryland after consuming too much alcohol at a fraternity party. Daniel passed out during the party, and no one called the police out of fear that they would get in trouble.

Danny's brain stopped that night, and seven days later his family took him off life support. Emergency Medical Services were less than half a mile away.

You can contact committee members now and tell them that calling 911 should never be a crime. Together, we can save the lives of our friends and children.

Sincerely,

Naomi Long
