I've been busy buying components and doing the layout of the FPGA
board. It's not finished yet; there's the 1.2V regulator, tracks from
the FPGA to the edge-connector and some copper fill areas for thermal
stability to do, but I thought I'd post a sneak preview. You can get a
nice interactive 3D rendering of the board. First start a web browser
and go to:
http://mayhewlabs.com/webGerber/
Then download the gerber files:
http://www.swaton.ukfsn.org/umdkv2/fpgaBoard.zip
Uncompress the zip file to a local directory, group-select all the
files, drag'n'drop them into the webgerber browser window you opened
and click "done".
The board is square, 80mm on each side. Four layers.
The prices I have paid for components (I have bought at least ten of each) are:
Blank PCB: £10.12 (not paid yet - just an estimate from the manufacturer)
FPGA (XC6SLX9): £7.29
USB chip (FX2LP): £4.04
1Mib EEPROM: £2.45
16MiB SDRAM (Micron MT48LC8M16A2TG): £0.71
USB socket: £0.20
SD card socket: £0.30
3.3V regulator: £0.18
1.2V regulator: £0.13
80W double-row connector: £0.53
Various resistors, capacitors, connectors, jumbers etc: £0.55
That makes the total component cost for the FPGA board £26.50. The
MegaDrive cartridge adaptor board will be about £10 in addition.
It has gone a bit quiet around here; is anyone still interested in this project?
