Really never used UMDK with an SD card plugged in but when I tried nothing seems to be happening. Other than less than 2gb/FAT32 is there any other things to watch out for?

It does not support SDHC cards as I recall. But realistically, you would not need the capacity of an SDHC card.
Some devices are a bit picky with the SD cards that they work
with; I had a lot of joy finding one that worked with a GBA
flashcart some years ago.

I can say that I haven't managed to get it working with an SD card either, however I believe it is because it doesn't support SDHC cards.
I haven't actually gone through the source code, but it might be relatively easy to add support for higher capacity cards.
