Hi
everyone,
Hope you all had a good Spring Break!
GBM #3: Current Medical Issues
Tuesday, March 24, 7-8 pm, STAMP Benjamin Banneker Room (Room 2212).
This week’s focus will be on current, relevant medical issues. We will be watching two videos from “60 Minutes,” regarding the fight against Ebola and the rising cost of cancer drugs. We will then split into smaller groups to discuss about these topics. Enhanced knowledge on these topics will not only be impressive during medical school interviews, but will also be extremely beneficial as you pursue a career in medicine. Besides that, we will also be making spring-themed cards for patients at the Children’s National Medical Center if time permits.
SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:
Beyond These Walls
Friday, March 27, 2:25 - 4:30 pm (including transportation)
Sign up here by Wednesday (3/25) to volunteer: http://goo.gl/forms/nEq8YABABo
You will earn 1 service point for
volunteering. We are collaborating with Beyond These Walls to teach kids at Langley Park McCormick Elementary School (only
10 min from UMD) about nutrition, exercise, and dental hygiene. For all of our
aspiring pediatricians out there, this is a great
opportunity to work with kids!
If you sign up, please look out for an email with transportation details. We will meet at 2:25 pm at the Hoff theater/Union Garage side of Stamp (big hill). Please remember that if you sign up, you are committing to showing up at this event. If you are unable to make it, please notify Ashley & Tiffany at least 24 hours in advance at umdams...@gmail.com. Just a reminder that you need 3 GBM points, 3 service points, and a flex point (GBM or service) to be an active member.
Have a wonderful week!
Best regards,
Ashley Yuen and Tiffany Hu
