Peg and I will not be at the reunion this coming week, but thought I'd
note some of what has happened to us since graduation in 1955. (We
had met initially singing in the choir in 1951 when University UMC met
in the cloakroom of the UofM Armory.) Graduation day in June 1955 was
also USAF commissioning day for me and our wedding later that
afternoon at the initial building of Univ. Church. Thoburn (Papa)
Bard and Bill Smith officiated and Grace Gosnell was organist. That
October I began two years in the Air Force in Illinois and Texas;
while in Abilene, TX our daughter Elizabeth was born; Grace Gosnell
agreed to be her Godmother, what became a wonderful relationship until
Grace's death. Next came graduate school for me at Michigan, Ann
Arbor and the birth of sons Richard and Jeffrey. Upon completing my
chemistry PhD, we moved to Athens, OH where I stayed for my entire
career, retiring as Professor of Chemistry at Ohio University in 1994
to volunteer for the local Habitat Chapter. Peg and I were active in
the local Wesley Foundation and the United Campus Ministry when WF
merged into an ecumenical program. In 2001 we moved to the Uplands
Retirement Village at Pleasant Hill, TN, associated with the United
Church of Christ. We have lost contact with College Park friends, so
hope this piece might result in someone recognizing us. Our email is
wink...@earthlink.net. Would love to hear from you. While in Ohio
we did have contacts with Bill Smith after he became minister at North
Broadway in Columbus.
All the best for a fine time together next week. Bob and Peg
