Dear UMCP KSA Members:

NAKASEC invites you and your KSA to join an important event coming up this Saturday.  On January 1st, four students started marching for immigration reform from Florida with a mission to reach DC by May 1st.  They are called the Trail of Dreams and you can read more on trail2010.org.  We will be joining the final steps of their march and join in a rally with those students and many more youth speakers.  The situation in Arizona is egregious and May Day events nation-wide will be key in ramping up pressure on Congress & the Administration to produce results.

Joining the movement for immigration reform not only strengthens our efforts to help undocumented Korean American students nationally, it also presents opportunities for you to meet passionate groups and inviduals in the struggle The rally may have deep-reaching impact on Korean American students among you, as one in seven Korean Americans are undocumented. Tens of thousands of students, despite their achievements and potential, cannot attend college simply because of their legal status. However, these students can get an opportunity to pursue a dream and fulfill their potential if comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) passes this year.

The Trail of Dreams is coming to its finale and we hope you will join us on Saturday, May 1st at 2:00 pm at Lafayette Park for the culminating rally.  NAKASEC will be sharing the stories of impacted Korean American youth on the main rally stage.

In addition to the 2 pm rally, there are a couple more invitations to walk with the dreamers earlier in the day:

8:30 am  Meet in Alexandria for a march to DC (approx. 4 miles)

1:00 pm  Meet at 15th & Constitution (approx. 1 mile to Lafayette)

2:00 pm  Rally at Lafayette Park with the Trail of Dreams

To RSVP or for questions, please feel free to reach me at 213-605-1255 or at op...@nakasec.org.

The support from local college KSA members can inspire the undocumented students because it shows that future Korean community leaders like you are interested in their cause. Please let us know if you will be able to make it so we can look out for you!

And please feel free to forward the invitation widely -- we will be sending out a flyer soon!

Sincerely,

Yeji Kim on behalf of NAKASEC
