Hey Everyone,

This is just a quick reminder that the MetoGrads are hosting an advanced storm spotter class called "Tropical" on Saturday, Nov. 6, 11am-2:30pm in Martin Hall.  This is the first time that we've offered a class on hurricanes, and with the active hurricane season we've been having, it's probably good to know a thing or two about hurricanes in case we get hit again.  (remember Isabel???)  Anyway, please come if you can and tell all your friends about it too!  I've attached a brief text description and flyer that you forward.  As always, the class is free and we'll be providing free pizza for lunch courtesy of the GSG.  I hope you can make it!

National Weather Service Tropical Storm Class

Saturday, November 6, 11 AM – 2:30 PM

Martin Hall (Engineering), Room 1202

Do you wonder why this was such an active hurricane season? Do you know what a “cat 3” hurricane coming up the Chesapeake Bay would do to DC?  Would you know how to prepare for the next tropical storm?  Find out the answers to these questions and more at the National Weather Service’s “Tropical” storm class on Saturday, Nov. 6. This advanced storm spotter class covers tropical cyclones, storm surges/flooding, hurricane climatology, and other severe tropical weather phenomena.  Although Basics I is required to receive credit, anyone with a strong interest and basic knowledge of weather is invited to attend. The class is FREE but please register online at http://www.atmos.umd.edu/~gcm/wiki/skywarn.html to ensure a space.  A free pizza and soda lunch will be provided courtesy of the Graduate Student Government.  If you have any questions, please contact Allison Monarski at amon...@atmos.umd.edu.
