Today, a fire destroyed a building at 224 South Whitney, just down the block from our church. Nineteen people were living in the building, and are now without a home. To my knowledge, no church members were living there, but several of us in the community were shaken by the event.
I know the owner of the building and spoke briefly with him. I also spoke with some of the folks in nearby buildings who have been affected. I am not sure if there is any direct way that we as a church can respond at this time, but I wanted to let you know so that you can - at the very least - offer a prayer of concern for those directly affected - our neighbors.
