to UMC of Hartford
Friends,
Yesterday at church, I was informed that Doris Carroll had died. Doris
was the wife of Bill, a United Methodist pastor who served at West
Hartford (as well as several other places). In his retirement Bill
served as a pastor of visitation at our church and both he and Doris
attended our church faithfully until they could no longer. Bill died
last year.
A service for Doris is being held at the West Hartford church this
Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
I've pasted in Doris' obituary with information about the service:
CARROLL, Doris M. Doris M. Carroll died on Friday (September 17, 2010)
in Middlesex Hospital Hospice Unit. She is survived by her daughter,
Christine of Canton. Doris was born on October 6, 1922 the daughter of
William and Emilie Brown. She was a graduate of Girls High School in
Philadelphia and her first job was at Penn Mutual Insurance Company.
In 1946, she married the love of her life, Rev. William Carroll who
she met at Sanctuary Methodist Church in Philadelphia where she was an
organist and he was the minister. They served churches in Bristol, PA;
Reading, PA; Lykens, PA and Leola, PA after which they moved to
Connecticut serving churches in Winsted, West Hartford, and Avon.
Doris was secretary to the Athletic Director at the University of
Hartford when the gym was on Hudson Street and after the move to the
Bloomfield Avenue Campus. She then worked at Aetna Life and Casualty
until retirement. She and Bill travelled extensively from their house
on Madsen Road in West Hartford and later from their home at Covenant
Village in Cromwell. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Bill
in 2009. The family would like to thank Priscilla Lyttleton and her
daughter Latarra for the excellent care they rendered Doris and Bill.
They would also like to thank all the friends and former parishioners
for their prayers and kind words. There will be a memorial service at
the West Hartford United Methodist Church, at 2 p.m., Saturday
(October 2, 2010). Contributions in her memory may be made to the
Memorial Fund of West Hartford United Methodist Church, 1358 New
Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06110. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home,
West Hartford has care of arrangements.
I wanted to share this information with you as quickly as I could
since the service will take place before our next worship service.
Blessings,
Pastor Bryan
