to UMBEL
Hi,

I am a new commer and have a question about the instances in umbel.
According to the online documents, these named entities instances are
from yago and John Peel Session. I am curious about how the yago
instances are classified to umbel subject concepts.

Is this classification done manully? If not, is there a predefined
alignment between yago classes and the umbel subject concepts to
transfer yago instances to umbel concepts? Is this alignment built
manually or by some automatic processes?

Thanks.

Here is where the million of Wikipedia named entities of UMBEL come
from:

Wikipedia -> Wordnet -> Cyc -> OpenCyc -> UMBEL

(Wikipedia -> Wordnet) is Yago.

So, a Wordnet -> Cyc -> OpenCyc -> UMBEL linkage created the link from
Wikipedia named entities to UMBEL subject concepts (types)

What we have done to filter-out non-Named Entities Wikipedia resources
is to check all Yago properties that were used to describe NEs. Then
we checked if their types were linked to UMBEL subject concepts. If
the answer was yes, then we included them in the Wikipedia NE
dictionary of UMBEL.

However, as you can guess, the long [Wikipedia -> Wordnet -> Cyc ->
OpenCyc -> UMBEL] linkage created many issues (mapping issues, issues
introduced by some NLP stuff, etc).

It is for this reason that we started to work on a new way to create
the UMBEL Wikipedia NE dictionary that doesn't use such a big, and
uncertain, linkage path. The end results should be: better mapping
between Wikipedia named entites and umbel subject concepts and more
NEs in the dictionary.

As I explained above :)

Hope this helps. Please ask any further question on the subject.

Take care,

Fred
