Hey everybody! I was wondering what everyone was getting for bug
repellent/ bug repelling gear. Does anyone know of a good repellent
that is less toxic than products containing deet?

I am getting a cheap permethrin kit from REI.  You soak your clothes in it, and it lasts 6 weeks or 6 washes, which ever comes first.  It's the same substance used in expensive "bug repellent clothing", and I hear it works pretty well.

Hello from Ecuador, where I am currently running my other project.
Thanks all of you for submitting your itineraries, if you haven't
please do.

With regards to the Bug Repellent question - there are many theories
as to what works best. They sell hard core repellent in Belize that
you put on clothes, but then you shouldn't ever plan on touching them
etc.
I just go with plain old Deet products and one clove of garlic a day.
I am serious, the mosquitos do not like the smell.

The thing I worry most about are ticks, which can be awful in places
and I have no idea what they will be like at the site. It depends on
the weather and how many animals are grazing the areas we work.

Someone also asked about power and adapters for electronics you bring
down. The answer is that they use the same outlet power but there can
be surges from time to time, so we like to put stuff on power strips.
