In February 2008, a transgender woman in police custody was held down
and beaten with an officer’s fists and handcuffs when she refused to
answer to "he/she" and "fag." As the woman lay bleeding on the floor,
a nurse entered the holding room and stepped over the victim to tend
to the officer, who said he hurt his hand.

Join us Thursday, October 29th at 5:30pm in the Cecil C. Humphreys
School of Law, rooms 250 and 252 as we discuss legislative efforts to
add gender identity and expression to existing hate crimes laws in
Tennessee. Panelists include State Rep. Jeanne Richardson, State Sen.
Beverly Marrero, Memphis attorney Murray Wells, hate crime survivor
Jack Robinson, and Tennessee Equality Project Board Member Darlene
Fike. All perspectives are welcome to join in the discussion. Co-
sponsored by OutLaw and The Stonewall Tigers.

*** PARKING will be available in the Central Avenue Parking Lot across
from the law school. Assurances have been made by University Parking
