Iam using Materialize to style some of my web pages. I have noticed that Roboto font does not render correctly in Firefox (v43.0.3), but looks fine in Chrome. Both browsers are downloading the woff2 font file from my server, which this question seems to indicate should be the optimum choice for modern browsers.

As I am not at all familiar with the intricacies of font rendering, I was hoping that someone with some knowledge in that area might have an idea what the problem is based on the error messages from Firefox.

I finally had some time available to look into this a bit more, it appears that some of the font files in the materialize repository are defective. I was able to completely resolve this issue simply by replacing the font files in the dist/font/roboto directory with the same files available at roboto-fontface-bower. Just pull from any of the version branches v0.3.0 or better.

The GSUB table mentioned in the error message cannot be the main reason for the rendering problems, because it only defines glyph substitutions (like ligature composition and decomposition, alternative glyphs for the same char code, etc). The table does not contain any rendering information for standard glyphs, so if only that table fails to load, rendering of standard text should not be affected. Details about the GSUB table can be found in Microsoft's OTF specification.

Firefox tells me that there is something wrong with the OS/2 table (which contains Windows font metrics). This is a completely different part of the font file, which again indicates that there is something wrong with the font structure or with reading the font structure.

I've installed the Roboto typeface on my system but it turns out that the default, regular face is rendered as black, even though in the thumbnail it appears to be lighter. This happens on all applications, on Linux and Windows too. Here's an example:

This is how the thumbnails look on any file manager on Linux, the fonts seem fine (Windows doesn't even list the regular face on the collection). Windows only lists the normal face if I remove the black face:

But I lose my black face and the italics are still rendered with the black face, so I'd have to remove the face along with its variants. What can I do? Is symlinking removing my fonts the only solution?

The problem is that both variants of the font (regular and black) interfere with each other, and I can only have one of the two installed at a time. Is there some sort of font metadata that I could change to fix this?

Hi together,

today I opened a file I created half a year ago where I used Roboto as font. Suddenly, out of nowhere Indesign is telling me that fonts are missing and lists Roboto ... (otf).

But I never used any otf Roboto. Half a year ago, I had Roboto activated via Adobe Fonts. And I still have. Nothing changed since that.

In my case, I have Roboto active through Adobe Fonts (OTF), but some days ago, Regular weight suddenly became "variable", although I cannot modify the variable settings of the font. When I export to PDF, Roboto regular can't be seen at all.

first of all many thanks for your answer and sorry for my late response. I really was able to find an old installed version of Roboto, but it was kind of a nightmare to get it deleted. I had to hunt it down in the regedit of windows and even there it was't possible to delete them all.

But just now, I activated Roboto again vie the link you sent me. And now it worked. ( I deactivated Roboto in Adobe Fonts when I had the problem)

While working on our Genesys Cloud webchat 2.0 widget application and launching at a client site, we started getting this error "Access to font -v29-latin-regular.woff2 from origin ' ' has been blocked by CORS policy. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.

For this issue, what do we need to change to allow this CORS error to be resolved? Do we need to update a .htaccess file on 'mysite.com' or do we need to allow something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am using Adobe Illustator to make some SVGs. I need the font-family to be ONLY roboto for the web. However every time I save it shows other roboto fonts like Roboto-Regular and Roboto-Light. I tried installing the roboto web font from google fonts and restarted illustrator.

The simple solution is to just find and replace in my text editor however as I am going to be doing this in a lot in the future I would like to figure out the cause/real solution to make it just roboto.

Roboto (/roʊˈbɒt.oʊ/)[2] is a neo-grotesque sans-serif typeface family developed by Google as the system font for its mobile operating system Android, and released in 2011 for Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich".[3]

Roboto Bold is the default font in Unreal Engine 4, and in Kodi.[6] Roboto Condensed is used to display Information on European versions of Nintendo Switch packaging, including physical releases of games.

Android's previous system typeface, Droid Sans, was designed for the low-resolution displays of early Android devices, and did not display well in larger, higher-resolution screens of later models.[9][10] It was decided that a more modern typeface, designed from scratch, was needed for the newer displays.

The new typeface, Roboto, was designed entirely in-house by Christian Robertson who previously had released an expanded Ubuntu Titling font through his personal type foundry Betatype.[11][12] The font was officially made available for free download on January 12, 2012, on the newly launched Android Design website.

Compared to the humanist sans-serif Droid Sans, Roboto belongs to the neo-grotesque genre of sans-serif typefaces. It includes Thin, Light, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black weights with matching oblique styles rather than true italics. It also includes condensed styles in Light, Regular and Bold, also with matching oblique designs.

Roboto Slab is a slab serif font based on Roboto. It was introduced in March 2013, as the default font in Google's note-taking service Google Keep.[18] (The font was changed to the sans-serif Roboto in 2018.)[19] It is available in four weights: thin, light, regular and bold. However, no oblique versions were released for it. In November 2019, the typeface was updated and added 5 new weights: Extra-Light, Medium, Semi-Bold, Extra-Bold and Black, and a variable font axis ranging from 100 to 900. It also was modified with some characteristics from the sans-serif Roboto and to slightly resemble most slab-serif typefaces, such as "R", "K", "k", "g", "C", "S", etc.

Released in 2022, Roboto Flex is the variable font version of Roboto.[20] Roboto Flex has 12 adjustable axes, including optical size.[21] Notably, the static font version of Roboto does not have weights 200 (Extra Light), 600 (Semi Bold), and 800 (Extra Bold), which can be achieved by Roboto Flex via the weight axis. Roboto Flex supports Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic characters.

Roboto Flex was still not used as the default system font in Android, potentially replacing classic Roboto. Meanwhile, Google started to use Google Sans Text as the default system font for Android system apps (e.g. Settings) in Google Pixel devices, following other Android OEMs who introduce custom fonts to their system apps.

Inter was designed in 2017 by Rasmus Andersson who wanted a font that was easier to read on computer screens than Roboto while retaining its vertical proportions.[24] Earlier versions of Inter (then "Interface" and "Inter UI") included glyphs and followed the vertical glyph metrics (ascender and descender) from Roboto, while Roboto glyphs were included as a fallback for characters which have not been (re-)designed in Inter. Inter changed its vertical glyph metrics since 2018, making it different from that of Roboto.[25]

Due to this condition, the typeface had to be released in two combined licenses: the SIL Open Font License for original glyph designs for Inter and Apache License for the fallback Roboto glyphs and outlines. This exception was removed in 2020 after Roboto was re-licensed from Apache to OFL.[26]

Inter also has an experimental "Display" version, a font which has less letter spacing and has linear endings of letters.[27] Another variant with similar purpose, Inter Tight, is specifically designed for Google Workspace and other applications that do not support control over letter spacing.[28] The latter variant shares the same glyph shapes as Inter, while the former contains redesigned glyphs which will be introduced in a future version of Inter.

Piboto is a forked version of Roboto, including the original character styles as used before the 2014 redesign. It is specifically designed and currently the system font of Raspberry Pi OS (then Raspbian) as part of their desktop UI redesign.[29]

Hi,

Sorry for the very late reply, in the Enfold theme the Roboto font is actually written as roboto, for example, if you want to only have this one product woocommerce tabs have this font, please try this css:

I'm running R 4.1 on LSAF 5.4 by SAS Institute. LSAF is a locked down environment, there's no internet access, Latex is limited to the styles that can be installed using the TinyTex pre-built package (cf. Recommended LaTeX packages - #2 by cderv).

The \sffamily command should select sans-serif as the font but only works on the body of the text. \renewcommand\rmdefaultphv works for headers only. phv selects the Helvetica font family (see Font typefaces - Overleaf, Online LaTeX Editor). Code junks still use the default font.

I've found what was going wrong with my YAML header. I specified the "xelatex" engine in the YAML header but knitr::pandoc still used the default "pdflatex" engine. A solution was to include a pandoc option at the beginning of my markup code:

This works but italics, bold, are no longer used. I can use fontfamily: roboto but that is ignored. If I use mainfont: roboto, I get errors relating to mktextfm roboto. Apparently, TinyTex is attempting to install "roboto" but it's already installed. In any case, I'm working in a locked-down environment and can't access internet to install things.
