Entertainment venues will undoubtedly need expendables at some point. Be it light bulbs, tape, tie line, paint, haze or fog fluids, batteries, or gobos. Eventually these products will get used up during an event and need to be repalced. Good news, we've got all the items you might need, in stock!
Wanna hear your actors? You might need to stock up on Duracell ProCell or Energizer Industrial batteries. Wanna see your muses? Make sure you have the right lamp for all of your lighting fixtures. The worst feeling is having a lamp blow and discovering there are no spares :(
Lighting gels and gobo patterns are probably the most cost effective way to transform an event quickly. With all major theater lighting vendors supplying both, you should be able to find colored gel filters, stock gobo patterns, or custom gobos from Rosco, Apollo, Lee, or Gam.
Grab some coatings to help create unique and durable props, while applying Flamex, to make sure they stay in one piece. Toss on some custom mixes of Rosco paints from their diverse lines of Vivds to Fluorescents to make that sucker pop!
Don't forget to keep some fog fluid and haze fluid on hand. Since most machines have proprietary fluid, we stock Look Solutions, Le Maitre, CITC, Antari, DF-50, and UltraTec just to name a few. Make sure you have the right fluid for your machine to get the best results.
For the order, I took a list of expendables I submitted for a feature film I was 1st AC on sometime last year. It was a low-budget feature film being shot on the RED One. Here are the items I ordered:
1. Filmtools
The obvious choice and one of the most popular suppliers of not just expendables, but almost every tool/piece of equipment of the filmmaking trade. While based out of Burbank, CA, their online store is like the Amazon of the film world.
While shopping online at Barbizon, I also discovered that you could request a quote. In an effort of fairness, I sent off my list in case they offered lowered prices for going directly to them. Unfortunately, the prices were the same, although Barbizon did have items I requested on my invoice that they did not have listed in their online store.
Unfortunately, you may be in a situation on a low/no-budget film where production won't rent a follow focus or you're a one-man-band filmmaker who can't afford one. Luckily there are some easy techniques to rig up a follow focus on the cheap, most for under $10.00.
