Ihad installed a Windows 10 64-bit version 1511 on my laptop. After completing the necessary steps, it started downloading updates. After some time I could see that 40GB in my Windows drive was full and so many updates were installed.
But there was this update "Windows feature update 1803", it was downloading. The problem is that it has been three days that my system downloads this update, try to install it, but then start downloading again and start installing again. It hasn't been able to completely update my windows version and this update still shows, sometimes downloading, and sometimes installing, but can do nothing else. I have given it fixed 2MB Internet, and I keep it running until it restarts itself.
I recently had the same issue. Except I was actually using 1507. In my case, the installation was actually a virtual machine. In my case, the installation was an Insider Preview build based on my notes, that was later upgraded to the final build (RTM) 10240 at some point.
I decided that it was time to update this machine, I spent the better part of a day attempting various methods to upgrade it one of the more recent Windows 10 versions, but each time I would receive an error.
This error message was only being displayed when I attempted to either use the current Upgrade Assistant and/or the Media Creation Tool. When Windows Update attempted to install the feature update it would fail silently. The machine would go through the process, reboot several times, and then suddenly start to roll the changes back. So unless you watched the entire process you would miss what was happening (which is exactly what I was not doing).
The only way I have found to upgrade older Windows 10 installations that are NOT on a build that is currently supported (1507,1511,1607,1703,1709) is to upgrade to each of those versions before attempting to upgrade to (1803,1809, and 1903). Feature updates are only supported for 18 months, I have found any installation on an unsupported build, actually has problems getting updates. This can be mitigated by keeping the system current with updates (security updates are released for all versions), but the Windows Catalog, does not archive updates forever. It appears updates have a limited lifespan around 18 months, so updates for 1507 could not be downloaded, as they had already been removed.
I suspect I was receiving the error for several reasons. The entire feature updates upgrade process has received improvements in the last 12 months. So I suspecting attempting to upgrade from 1507 and/or 1511 to one of the builds after that improvement is not supported.
It also based on the fact the tools that can diagnose the upgrade process itself is likely also untested on systems upgraded from older feature updates to newer updates. I used SetupDiag to diagnose the issue. The documentation on the error codes appear to have been updated, I suspect the tool only supports updates after the upgrade improvements, because while the tool did parse the reason for the failure the documentation for the error did not seem to properly explain the failure.
In my original attempts I attempted to use WSUS Offline, but that tool downloads catalog files and depending on how long you went without updates it, the updates might have been already removed from the catalog. Additionally, it appears WSUS Offline, only supports the supported feature updates (1803, 1809, 1903). It appears WSUS Offline will only ever support upgrading the feature updates that exist within the SAC (Semi-Annual Channel).
You need a fresh update then -us/software-download/windows10ISODownload and you will be at may 2019 copy fresh then it should install updates to nov 2019 fresh new build with your files still saved. I had same problem til this was downloaded. You just have an old copy of Windows. It helped our not updating problems as well.
Been running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit for months without a problem on my ElitePad 1000 G2; applying Windows 10 updates all along - until now. Yesterday, 11/12/2015, version 1511 (Threshold 2) update from Microsoft downloaded automatically and restarted to begin the OS upgrade installation. The upgrade completed the first 'Copying files' phase, and started the second phase 'Features and drivers', then stopped (hung) at 40% total progress/23% features and drivers progress with no further response. Only a 'hard shutdown' (hold Power button for at least 10 seconds) worked. Upon 'power up' the result was an immediate "Restoring previous version", and the subsequent restart restored my previous login - as expected.
Finally, a fix for me! I used the latest Microsoft 'MediaCreationTool' (dated 11/13/2015) to download and create a 'USB stick' upgrade media (1/8/2016). The created USB stick contained over 3GB of upgrade content. First booted my ElitePad into my original Windows 10 upgrade OS, then inserted the USB stick in my ElitePad. Launched 'Setup.exe' on the USB stick to start the upgrade process, and left the USB stick connected until the upgrade was finished; several restarts part of the upgrade. Once Setup.exe launched, a blue-background menu proceeded and displayed 'Checking for Updates' for over 15 minutes (checking for updated drivers, etc.) then proceeded to the Upgrade Process display (Progress Circle GUI). The Upgrade Completed in about 90 minutes without a hitch. So far, all features and programs are intact. I'm assuming either HP-related drivers got updated (finally) in the current 1511 Build, and/or the latest created USB stick media works where the Microsoft Update (via Microsoft Update servers) has an issue. For me, this solved my v1511 upgrade issue. I hope this helps others.
Sorry you are experiencing a similar update result, and thanks for sharing your experience. My guess is a driver conflict prevents a complete update. In the past, HP has released updated drivers for a particular Windows release or upgrade; that may be the case here. I also found a recent BIOS update for my ElitePad, but I could not apply it because the BIOS update package (SP73353) was not signed and could not be applied. There may be a prerequisite to install new BIOS and drivers before applying this latest update. I hope HP can provide some more information regarding this important Windows 10 update.
I removed my microsd card and my Stream 7 stopped hanging at 'features and drivers' but then it black screens after the update is complete, so I assume theres another problem now. Will probably do a clean install, since my tablet needs it.
Removing the microSD card before the update seems like good advise. Only seeing one pending Update for my ElitePad 1000 G2 in the HP Support Assistant for my device before the v1511 Update, a BIOS update, that was all I focused on. I have since discovered several new HP driver and software updates for my device on the HP Support website that were not alerted via HP Support Assistant.
To start, the 'not signed' error, when trying to apply the latest BIOS update, was resolved after first installing the new WMI 64-bit driver that is listed on the HP Support website for my device. Reviewing other drivers and software, I also discovered new chipset and network drivers, and diagnostic software. After downloading and applying the new drivers and software, I am waiting for the v1511 Update to become available again - it is not now automatically available via Windows Updates. I am hoping that after applying these latest drivers and software, the v1511 Update will install correctly.
Reporting back that a fresh install works fine, so its probably an incompatible driver or something. So anyone who is willing or needs a fresh install of windows 10 1511, this works fine, for me at least.
I contacted Microsoft Support and they were very helpful and checked my PC but then said that the update has been withdrawn for my PC due to issues and they expect it to be available at a later time. It no longer shows in the windows update function and just says I am up to date.
Thanks for sharing that, challenger07! Good to know that Microsoft is aware and working on it! I can be patient and wait for the fix, now that I know that. I was expecting HP Support to chime in here and advise us, but it appears "we customers are driving the bus" for these support issues.
Is there only one Upgrade available to these 1511 PCs? I seem to recall an issue some really old versions like this had where if they had more than one OS upgrade available to them via WSUS - be it two different versions or even two different languages of the same version, they would get confused and ignore them and decide that there were no updates needed.
In my understanding, the feature upgrade is actually an incremental update, which is intended to be upgraded for several nearby versions. That is to say, from 1511 to 1903, in this way, the span is too large.
Please consider observing the results of the self-reported version of the 1511 client in WSUS and approving the highest version of the upgrade it is prompted for, then stepping closer to version 1903.
Today (10/10/2017) devices running on Windows 10 version 1511 will no longer receive security and quality updates. It is absolutely critical to your business' cyber-security that you update to the latest version of Windows 10 ASAP. As I've mentioned in previous articles, Equifax and the NHS experienced major cyber-security attacks as a direct result of running software that was out-of-date.
I'm pretty sure that all the releases of the Affinity suite require a 64-bit version of Windows, so probably you at least have that. But the current versions require version 1607 when running Windows 10. I'm not sure when that requirement came in, so I'm not sure how much more current you might be able to get without some kind of Windows upgrade.
