Hi,

Always on the lookout for a "DIY Level" lingua franca for space applications, wondering what would be your comments on "J Mode/AX.25"?

If there were such a thing as a common band, modulation and encoding then perhaps things like open source TDRS become possible.

All comments most welcome,

Joshua

Ha ha,
I really liked this. There are amounts of basic ideas for low-cost space access. Always thre is a new concept to learn.
Best,

Yea, I like the spirit of that effort -- which complements engineering simplicity

Here's some more information on the subject.. http://aprs.org/astars.html

After browsing that info, I don't have the impression that Mode-J is necessarily the right idea.  However the broader conception of APRS applications for example (as at 1200 baud) sounds very interesting.

For the moment I haven't put together the user data for the APRS 1200 baud satcom channel (frequencies, modulation, etc).  But this sounds like a candidate for the essential "most reliable primary" channel for a common flight control.

Yes,
APRS what we are using for the N-Prize Launcher tracking.
Thanks!

I'd build a 1200 baud APRS IGate breadboard if i could find some schematics... all pointers most welcome
