Hi all,

Has anyone tried to use a downconverter with the RTLSDR for the 2.4Ghz band, just wondering how this will work out. Any hints or suggestions would be helpful.

It may work OK; but, the DVB-T chips are too limited in bandwidth to be of
much interest with modern toys in that band.

Yep used an old MMDS (2300 mhz) downconverter with an LO of 1970 Mhz, Pacific Monolithics.. I've got heaps of them.
Modified the PacMon's board to open up the bandpass filter. Worked okay, bit of phasing noise but I saw OFDM at 2400 so I call it a success.
The converter uses an integrated microstrip dipole though so I'm only hearing my own gear,Besides I'm living in semi-bush so signals are weak esp indoors.
Next steps..nbsp;throw a high-pass on the front-end before the;LNA to kill cellular..replace the integrated dipole with an RP-SMA and stick a wideband discone on the roof..
and build a good bias tee dc power injector for the coax feed
I'll try to stick my results up on a blogpage and link it in here when I get it finished
If you use an MMDS downconverter you'll probably have to modify the filters, they drop-off quite hard outside 2300-2400.

Yeah 3Mhz isn't much to work with but it's interesting to sniff around. If I was more 'l33t I'd try and decode some wireless cameras and cordless phones

benyanau do you have any more on the MMDS downconverter, and will it still work with SDR and/or SDRDUO?
Thanks, Garfield
