I'm not sure if this is a false positive or not. But my AVG antivirus triggers on
the httpget.exe inside sdr-install.zip at http://sdrsharp.com/downloads/sdr-install.zip.

Attached below.

I've rewitten install.bat to use wget.exe instead.

My Norton AV program automatically removed "httpget.exe" when I tried to install an SDR# application.  If "httpget.exe" is widely used within the SDR community I wonder why Norton AV is still blocking/removing it?  Is is really safe, or unsafe?

Hal, if in doubt try one of the online scanning sites. Some anti-virus
simply says: "I've not seen this before, it must be a virus". No (polite)
comment!

Oh, and the current SDR# install doesn't use httpget - it's just a Zip file
you unzip to a directory of your choice, outside the \Program Files\ tree,
such as C:\Tools\SDR. See:

They proactively consider httpget as a tool for malware authors. But, then,
Norton AV is it's own punishment for using the Norton Virus. (It is indeed an
infection. You'll find out if you ever try to remove it.)

I also noted that in addition to automatic removal of httpget.exe, Norton also removed SDRSharp.exe and ADSBSpy.exe.  I downloaded these from airspy.us as part of the SDR# app package.  Unfortunately, just going to another unknown (at least to me) site to download someone else's antivirus app doesn't alleviate my cautious nature.  Not only could the '.exe' apps be virus laden, so could another recommended anti-virus app.  So, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.  BTW, I have removed Norton in the past - it was not easy.  However, I need persuasive evidence that I'm not going to screw up my machine by installing the '.exe' apps from airspy.us.  How many users safely download the SDR# app from airspy.us?  Other suggestions to squelch my worries?

Hal,

The reason your AV is blocking those files is they are EXE files and it
is trying to protect you from running a rogue program. You will have to
override it but as long as you obtain the files from the official SDR#
download site there is no reason to be concerned.

Thank you.  Question:  is the "official SDR# download site" airspy.us?  If not, what is the official SDR# site?

http://airspy.com/ or more directly http://airspy.com/download/

I thought airspy.us redirected downloads to airspy.com.

They seem to be two distinct sites.  So airspy.com is the official SDR# download site?

It is registered to one Touil Youssef, a name that should be pretty familiar to
people modestly aware of the AirSpy. He is the person who led the team which
created it. The folks at AirSpy.us are authorized resellers who import in bulk
and sell to the US with MUCH shorter delivery lags.
