Dear Friends -

We chose the auspicious day of Buddha Purnima [1] to release a new edition of an out-of-print [2] gem of a book, The Doctrine of the Bhagavad Gita by Pandit Bhavani Shankar [3]. For those new to Theosophy, this book will be a delightful introduction to the core tenets of Theosophy through the words of Shri Krishna. While long-time students of Theosophy will find that they gain a deeper understanding of both the Gita and Theosophy by studying this book.

Illuminating ideas brought out in this book are to be found nowhere else: (a) the most edifying classification of the chapters of the Gita, (b) Mahashmashana, Neutral Barrier or Mahasushupti, (c) nature of the four initiations and final mergence into Ishvara, (d) the hidden cause of Avataras, (e) deficiency of speculative Sankhya (the correct explanation of verse XII-5), (f) nine stages of devotion and Para-Bhakti, (g) Mulaprakriti and Daiviprakriti, (h) higher vs. lower Kundalini, (i) occult explanation of Adhibhuta, Adhidaiva and Adhiyajna, and much more.

In this edition, we have painstakingly corrected errors from earlier publications, furnished transliteration for all Devanagari content along with a pronunciation guide, expanded references to various other sources and provided the correct phonetic pronunciation of all Indic words used in the text.

Thanks in advance for supporting our effort in bringing important books on Pure Theosophy back into circulation.

With warm fraternal regards,

United Lodge of Theosophists, Bengaluru
