I think I have the same problem.
I cannot get the Application Server to display in 'Unregistered Servers.'

What does "Server checkup error: (2, 'RegQueryValueEx', 'The system cannot find the file specified.')" mean?

The Event Log shows:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: OVD
Event Category: None
Event ID: 255
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER2
Description: [1588] Server checkup error: (2, 'RegQueryValueEx', 'The system cannot find the file specified.')

I have been successful in creating an Ulteo 3.0 system with a Windows 2003 SP2 Server Application Server before but on my 2nd system I upgraded Uteo, on Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS, from 3.0 to 4.0.1 and tried to create an App Server on my Windows 2003 SP2 Server.
This Windows 2003 SP2 Server has MS SQL 2000, is installed on a VirtualBox, and is connected to a Domain while the fist one did not.
The Windows 2003 SP2 Server has been working fine in its normal use.

The App Server on the Session Manager is working fine.

1111

1113
3389
3390

Is there anyone in the group who has ever seen this Event Viewer error message before?

In Services.msc, on the Windows 2003 SP2 Server, the 'Ulteo Open Virtual Desktop agent' I see the status as stopped but set to startup Automatic. When I manually start it I get the following dialog box:

"The Ulteo Open Virtual Desktop agent on Local Computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."

This is a first. I believe it means that some registry keys are missing. Is this a fresh install? If not, I would suggest a fresh one. No idea how that could happen.

Marko,
This installation is a fresh install to test if we can run Ulteo with our Windows 2000 SQL database on a
Windows 2003 Server.
The Ubuntu server is also a fresh install.

Previously, I installed Ulteo 3.0 App Srv on the same hardware but only
Windows 2003 Server SP2 was installed.
This time I reformatted, reinstalled but also installed SQL Server 2000 and restored our database.
Upgraded the Session Manager to 4.0.1. Then I installed the
Ulteo 4.0.1 Application Serve.

I've had the same problem, and while I see it being reported, I've never found any answers.  This is the first thread I found, so I'll provide a solution here.

In the registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp]
Add a new Dword value, "UserAuthentication", and leave it at 0.

That's it.  Restart the Ulteo service and you should be good to go.

I'm not a Windows Server expert, so I don't know why it isn't set by default, but I do know that Ulteo is not performing the correct error correction when searching for this value.  This was on a fresh Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition installation and I imagine that in some instances the value could be filled in correctly.

To help anyone else troubleshoot (there's so little Ulteo information out there), here are the bits that lead me to the solution.

First I changed the registry for Ulteo logging in the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE/Ulteo/OVD/SlaveServer/log]
"level" = "error warn info debug"

This gave me the error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "OVDWin32Service.pyc", line 72, in SvcDoRun
File "ovd\Platform\Windows\ServerCheckup.pyc", line 39, in check
error: (2, 'RegQueryValueEx', 'The system cannot find the file specified.')

Snooping through the program files I was able to find the file, "C:\Program Files\Ulteo\OVD Application Server\lib\shared.zip", which contained the file "ovd\Platform\Windows\ServerCheckup.pyc".  Using a python decompiler, the script tests two registry keys for acceptable values.  The hitch is that if the value is not set at all, it fatal errors.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server]
fDenyTSConnections

&&

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp]
UserAuthentication

Hope this helps anyone else!

Adding [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp] and adding a new Dword value, "UserAuthentication", set to 0, seems to have worked.

I now have the W2k3 server listed as an App server in the Session Manager.

Thanks Mark,
I just used this to get WHS working (it's a derivative of Windows Server 2003).
