I would like a dropbox like slave server similar in functionality to
http://owncloud.com/. The reason for me wanting this is: I believe the
files created in you're wonderful desktop system would benefit the
user if it where available everywhere, like the desktop currently is.
Possibly even with single sign on support for other services like
Google Documents. People would love the freedom this would bring them.
Imagine how cool it would be if you're files available on you're win,
mac, linux desktop, you're iphone/ipad, android phone/tablet and in
other web services on the internet using webdav and single sign on.
Ullteo has already made the files available in the most importer
place, the web browser (Portal). Why not go all the way as you have
with the desktop and make the user files available everywhere?
Owncloud even let you choose local, ftp, sftp or cloud storage as file
server storage. owncloud is open source.
if security is an issue, it is easy to integrate 2 step authentication
using the soon to be released UbiKey with NFC support which will work
on computers as well as tablets and mobile phones (http://
www.yubico.com/yubikey-neo).
you also have services like:
http://www.onelogin.com/.
If the storage is mounted and not synced it would also be easy to
remove the storage remotely if a device got stolen or lost.
