As you know, I adore Mexican food of all kinds. I love Mexican-American dishes like my crispy Ground Beef Tacos, Double Decker Tacos (using my Homemade Taco Seasoning recipe). And of course, I love authentic dishes like Beef Birria and even fusion-like dishes like this Birra Ramen.
I have 2 questions: (1) Could I use my juicer, rather than my blender? Or is the Blender providing a different consistency, hence why you recommend blending the fruit, then straining the fruit? (2) Do you have recipe for a pineapple cucumber agua Fresca? Thank you!!
During my elementary school years, I visited my grandmother in Mexico quite often. As soon as vacation began, I hopped on a bus with my older brother and a sack lunch and headed off with excitement. I consider that period of time one of the most important in my life. I not only had the opportunity to create special moments with my grandmother, but I feel I gained lots of independence and business sense during those memorable times I will forever cherish.
My grandmother owned a miscelnea, a convenience store, that sold miscellaneous items, just as its name suggests. From laundry soap, to rice by the pound to ready made food and beverages. You named it, she had it. My duties were to greet the bread delivery man at the crack of dawn, prep the butcher paper for dry goods and make the aguas frescas for the day.
Making this drink with him took me back to such sweet times with my grandmother. I was so happy to be able to guide him step-by-step just like she did as I poured the La Lechera Sweetened Condensed Milk into the big glass drink barrels. Simply an unforgettable experience I will hold near and dear to my

One of my favorite ways to enjoy fresh fruit is in agua fresca form. Agua frescas are refreshing fruit drinks made simply of fruit blended with water, lime juice and a bit of sweetener.
Crazy about aqua fresca! I made this the other day and it was so delicious. Everyone loved it even the texture-sensitive husband.
Instead of lime juice, I suggest pulsing a diced whole lime and a cup or two of water first though, then straining through a sieve and using this with the rest of the recipe. The skin gives it just the right little bit of bitter.
Do you remember where, in Austin, you had the Agua Fresca that you mentioned? We are heading there next week, with the temps where they are there, this sounds like what we will need!
Thank you!!!! Definitely going to use this recipe at home
When my older son was young, as I imagine many parents did with their first born, I had certain expectations on how things would go with food. I had hoped to introduce him to a broad range of foods early on in the hope he'd keep the majority in his likes as he got older (I knew he'd drop some).
Now he is a bit older, thankfully he actually sits through dinner these days. And while he's still skeptical of a few things, he's coming round to some others. A few fruits I've managed to get back in favor are mango and cantaloupe, so we have them more regularly in the house now.
It's lighter and more refreshing than juice, but has more flavor than flavored water. The number of flavors is about as limitless as your imagination - make sure you also try my agua de jamaica (hibiscus tea) and cucumber agua fresca as well.
The one step that takes a little more time is straining the pureed cantaloupe. It might seem tempting to skip this, but believe me it is worth doing. Rather than having a slightly thick drink you are left with the flavor but it's so much fresher without the 'bits'.
Cantaloupe agua fresca is not only a great way to use up any cantaloupe that might be languishing in your fridge, it's a tasty and refreshing drink perfect for any occasion. It will quench your thirst on a warm day, works well for a crowd, or have it as a lighter accompaniment to your meal. So go get some more cantaloupe.
I would rather add the water and the cantaloupe in the blender and then put the drink thru a cheese cloth or fine strainer. It will process quicker. Add the lime and a little sweetener and you have a quick refreshing drink.
You certainly can do it this way, it makes very little difference - cantaloupe is a very soft fruit (at least when ripe) so purees easily with or without water. The main reasons I puree the fruit alone first are it means less liquid to strain, and also you can put in more or less water to taste, since some melons can have less flavor and you may want less water, for example but you can't tell this as easily at the start and can't take water out.
