I cannot seem to take a screeenshot on my iPhone 6 Plus using the home + power buttons. I just got my 6 Plus this week and this functionality only works on the lock screen before I slide to unlock. Help!

To take a screenshot with your iPhone or iPod Touch, press and hold the sleep/wake button (on the right) and then click the Home button. You can do it the other way around, but if you're trying to take a screenshot of your Lock screen, Touch ID might kick in and ruin it for you.

This one solved it. I held down the home button for just a second before pressing the power button and that worked. I was getting frustrated because I've been doing this on my two other iPhones for years. Thanks for all the help

Your welcome. Sometimes it is easier to do it that way. Now with the larger phones, and the power button on the side, it is probably easier to make sure you have the home button pressed and then just tap on the power button. Glad you got it working for you.

I have had my Iphone 6+ for a month now and the screen shot was working perfectly until i update the IOS, now i hit the power button and home button together (dont work) i hit the home button first then the power button (dont work) i hit the power button then the home button (dont work) is there something in the system setting that i can fix this issue with?

There is no setting to turn on or off, and Apple has not removed the function. What troubleshooting have you tried? First step is to power the phone off and then back on. If that does not help, then try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release the buttons. The phone will reboot. Try after that.

Yes, rebooting the iPhone restored the screenshot function. Now my quest begins to find which one of the 934 apps installed is responsible for the glitch in the first place. Gonna be a daunting task but I'm sure it's one of my photo apps.

I have had a 12 Pro max since Mid Dec. I've noticed that there is a 5-10sec delay for my screenshots to appear. My software is up to date. This is very frustrating. Anybody else having these problems?

I have the same problem (12promax), it still occurs until now (no software fixes yet) and i really hope that apple will fix this soon. It occurs when im in a call, i took a screenshot and it wont indicate anything that i took it but it was already in my gallery, moments later it showed up and gets stuck in my screen (even after i lock and unlock my phone). The only fix to this as of now is to reboot my phone, and im actually dissapointed by the number of weird things happening like the logo flashed when i reboot my phone etc.

Hello, I'm new to iOS development and I'm trying to take some screenshots of my app to submit to the App Store. I'm running Ventura 13.0.1 and XCode 14.1. So far I've used these simulators to take screenshots:

What I'm stuck on is getting the 5.5 inch screenshots, which are required for App Store submission. As far as I can tell from some online searching, the latest iPhone with that screen size was the 8 Plus. I've installed the oldest iOS simulator that XCode has listed (iOS 13.7), but it still won't let me run a simulator for the iPhone 8 Plus to get those screenshots. I don't have the physical device to take screenshots on. Does anyone know how to get the 5.5 inch screenshots without having to manually resize them?

You can also try this for getting the iPhone 8 Plus installed:When you create the simulator, if you tap on "OS Version" there is a drop down for "Download simulator runtimes", (which takes you to the "Platforms" settings screen, there is a little "+" icon there select "iOS" and from there you can install iOS 14.3 (which is 5GB) or another iOS version if you like, so your iPhone 8 Plus can run on that instead.
The don't make all of these buried drop-down screens with the little "+" icons easy to discover...

If someone at Apple is reading this, in 2023 it's a nonsense to force developers downloading a 5GB simulator just to make a screenshot that is mandatory for submitting the App on the AppStore. It makes things unnecessarily complicated.

Per @jakir.me recommendation to use iPhone SE 3rd generation and then resizing it, you can use this Figma template to help you do the resizing. Figma is free and you just need to drag and drop the image and resize it to fit the template frame and that's it.

Ran into that as well. After some research - and not being able to get the 8 Plus simulator since it cannot run iOS 17+ - I use the iPhone SE (3rd generation) and then resize the image with some batch command or via preview: selecting all screenshots and then resizing them.

One more thing: when you make a screenshot - and I did many [!!!] they will be saved as PNG. When you upload them they might - probably will - fail since they might include alpha channels. Apple does not like that. So, convert them to JPG with some batch converting mechanism and they will be fine and are no trouble at all!

In the end I discovered by chance (during a demo to the remote support engineer via camera) that pressing and releasing the two buttons really quickly made it work... holding down for even half a second before releasing, and it doesn't work... with a longer press/release, sometimes the watch and phone would both vibrate (as if it's doing something) but then no screenshot would appear on the phone.

Why can't they make this clear in the guide, and why did nobody from support know to suggest this? Certainly, on the iPhone itself, you can hold both buttons down for a while and then release, and the screenshot is effective still... but on the Watch (my Series 8 anyway)... it needs to be a very quick press/release.

I am well aware that the iPhone SE still has a similar screen ratio, and that it is still being supported by iOS 17, but it doesn't have the same pixel requirements (1242 x 2208), which means that in order for my app to be even reviewed (which is an iOS 17+ exclusive), I'm gonna have to create images that will then be upscaled to the right dimensions.

I have the same problem -- I have an app version that is iOS17 only and there is no device / simulator with a 5.5 inch screen that runs iOS17 anymore. That makes generating screenshots for the app store more difficult as there isn't a device with these dimensions that can actually run that app.

Hi, I used the App Image Size (free in App Store with advertising) to resize 2 or 3 images. I put the photos in the store and the photos were accepted. The App cut some parts of the photo but it works.

Yes, I'm running into the same problem. Very frustrating and Apple needs to update this. I'm wondering if they still require 5.5" screenshots for those apps that are still backwards compatible for older devices? But I would love it if they could make this no longer required because I'm not sure who still owns an iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone 7, etc...

I target 17, there is no runtime to produce 5.5" screenshots, besides literally faking it, which seems very anti-spirit and nonsensical. Apple you have sent me 3+ emails on preparing my app for vision, including how to properly "frame" screenshots. I'll get on that as soon as I'm done uploading iPhone 8 Plus assets.

For iPhones without a home button (any model from the iPhone X and newer), simultaneously press the power button and volume up button. But note that if you press these buttons down for too long, the power off and SOS screen will appear.

When you take a screenshot successfully, you'll see the screen flash and hear a camera shutter sound (if you've got silent mode off). A miniature version of your screenshot will float on the bottom left of your screen. You can tap on it and go into Markup mode to crop, edit or add text right away without having to go into the Photos app first, which is terrific.

If you don't want to edit your screengrab, you can just swipe the mini version away or wait for it to disappear on its own after a few seconds. By default, your screenshot will save to the Photos app.

If your iPhone has a home button, there's a different way to take a screenshot. Press the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time. A mini version of your screenshot will pop up on the bottom left of the screen.

Android has a few different ways to capture what's on your screen. The universal way is to simultaneously hold the power button and the volume down button. The screen will then flash and a smaller version of your screenshot will appear on the display. This will work across devices like the latest Pixel 8 and 8A lineups, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Depending on your phone, an editing window might pop up. Otherwise, the screenshot will disappear off the screen. Screenshots are saved in the Google Photos app, or in your phone's native gallery app.

If you own any recent Motorola phone, like the Motorola Edge Plus or Moto G Power 5G, you can use the power and volume button technique, or a three-finger method. This latter technique happens to be one of my favorite ways to take a screenshot because there's very much a Vulcan-neck-pinch Star Trek vibe to it.

To enable three-finger screenshot, go into the Moto app, or if you're on an older Motorola phone, find the Moto Actions menu in Settings. Click on the hamburger menu and go to Moto Actions, then turn on Three Finger Screenshot. You can tap on the description to bring up a quick animated tutorial on how to use it.

Perhaps the most interesting way to take a screenshot comes from Samsung. You can, of course, use the Android system way with the power and volume buttons. But there are a couple of other options, one of which involves using the edge of your palm.

To trigger this, hold your hand in a "karate chop" pose (so basically, the edge of your hand is perpendicular to the screen) and drag the side of your hand across the full display. Your phone will then take a screenshot.
