I know that a lot of people use it almost without thinking about it nowadays but I'm afraid I am not one of them. I find the whole Facebook culture totally insidious and I am bothered by the fact that it was arguably part funded by the CIA and that once you chose to post something on it, you no longer own that content. In fact, if you chose to delete your content, all you do is delete your own access to it. I know of many many people who have been scammed through Facebook, I know of children who have been horrendously bullied through Facebook and I know of one particular individual who is currently accumulating 'friends' on this site who has been previously convicted of a serious crime committed against 'friends' gathered on another site. I also understand that there are many people (no doubt yourselves included) who use it quite happily on a daily basis but please accept that there is another side to it and others have had a different experience.
I have been a member of this site for nearly twelve years. I find it incredibly useful and insightful and would be very sad to lose my access to all those who contribute to it. Recently I have been particularly lucky to have enormous and very valuable guidance through my puppy's illness thanks to a member of this site, to whom I am eternally grateful.
I understand that I probably sound like a loony as Facebook has become such an acceptable part of the fabric of social culture in this country that any views that challenge it sound barmy. Nonetheless I do ask if there might be an alternative so that those of us who choose not to be part of the Facebook world can still participate.
