Mine have always had the ink applied (very liberally) after the clamping with no problems. My tip is don't do it in a kitchen with cream cupboards!!!When they shake their head afterwards it can cover some distance. Not sure that helps?

My dear friends (in the UK especially) - are any of you NDTR
tattooers? Or do you know of anyone who is, who might be prepared to
advise me? I am being given an ear clamp to do my pups' tattoos with
and would love to get some tips from someone with experience. I'd hate
to do this wrong! Need to know if there's anything I can practise on
(piece of leather?) and if there is any benefit to inking after
clamping vs. applying ink to the needles (which I know one lady in
Canada does)? I was never present for my boys' ear tattoos and the
Canadians mostly use tattoo pens, which forces you to tattoo the groin
on a conscious dog, and I just much prefer the ear tattoos. If you can
share any tips with me or direct me to someone who would chat me
through it, I'd be eternally grateful!

Hiya,
I've only had 2 litters and 3 adults done. Ink was always rubbed in after the clamping.
