Hi all

Couldnt put a new post up on the main site so am just sending via an email, hope it works.  Is anyone else finding it hard to access the main google group page?  It takes along time to load now and soon all the history is going to be unavailable.  Have I missed something? Are we moving to another site?

Regards

Helgs

If I try to "visit the group" it just doesn't load, so you're right Helga, there's something amiss there.

Helga,

Google has been playing around with Groups again. This article might
shed some light:

Hi Damian

Oh dear...looks like "our" group may have to find another platform -
any ideas? Another question - there's a wealth of information in all
the previous posts/threads...is there a way this could be stored or
moved somewhere that all could access?

Yahoo seems the obvious solution, but it isn't without its quirks. We could go to Facebook ... make it a closed group, so that you don't get all and sundry joining just for the hell of it. Most of us are "over there" already.

Hi Chrissie

I know what you mean about Yahoo groups - I also don't find them
particularly user friendly particularly when it comes to searching for
past threads!

Facebook seems an obvious choice...I'd certainly go for it - what does
everyone else think?

Hi All,
Facebook would be Soooo much easier (and certainly more user friendly!)

Hi All
Totally agree with Lucy and Chrissie. A Closed group on facebook would be
perfect and we would end up with many more people who own and love the breed
taking part. I have 100 people on the North West Vizz Wizz facebook group
that I know would join! And it is so easy to share photographs, documents,
links etc. Gets my vote!
Warm regards
Helgs

There is already a facebook group for the HVS. The only problem with moving totally to a facebook group is that some people on the google group have not got a facebook account. Just a thought.

Yes, that's true, but you have to open up a google account in order to be
part of the Google groups site too.

group...I'm sure they'd love to join!

Not sure if this post will work as I am replying through email. Facebook
gets my vote as I struggle with the google thing and never log in so the
only notifications I get are random emailed ones. I have no idea how it
works and never post things as I don't find it very user friendly. Facebook
however is fareasier and even I can navigate around it.

I'm the same, Claire!!!! Never been able to work the Google site, just relied on the email notifications. I'm all for Facebook as it's idiot proof...for idiots like me ;0)

Chrissie you said " make it a closed group, so that you don't get all
and
sundry joining just for the hell of it" I do not understand why that
be a bad thing? personally I think it would be great to throw open the
doors as wide as possible -

I suspect chrissie's suggestion was parting due to the same reasons that this group is a members only group & is moderated because we have, at times, had some dubious 'members' join & then post obscenities &/or pornographic or other such messages which we deemed totally unsuitable, as I'm sure you would agree. I'm sure no genuine vizsla lover would be turned down on the new Facebook group!

As one of the few it seems who's not had a problem with any of the Yahoo
groups I'm on, I'd put in a lonely vote for Yahoo :)

Not a FB lover - but would definitely vote for a 'closed' page rather than
open.

Yep Elaine, that's basically it. Trolls abound - they have no real interest in making friends, sharing info and celebrating our lovely breed - they are troublemakers who get off on stirring and creating conflict and riots. We may still get the odd one or two, but most pick easy targets and a closed group where you have to ask to join (and it would be good if people wrote a quick line of intro to say what their interest is in the group), would be a good start. We will naturally reach a far wider audience with FB. And there will be far more "chat" between members than on a list. Just remember folks, if you join the FB page, to switch off the "notify by email" setting if you don't want every single comment to arrive in your inbox! I prefer to go to the group page to read through threads or just see from the newsfeed or notifications list what activity there is - enough stuff clogging up my email inbox without all that too!

I'm with the rest of you, Facebook is so easy once you've set it up
and I guess most of us are there already. It was certainly harder to
set this google group up for me!

I know some people worry about Facebook's privacy, or lack of it, and
the way companies are using it for advertising. If you get the
personal settings right it's fine, and let's face it Google are hardly
a charity. ;-)

Hi all

As I’ve already said, I’d be more than happy for a group to be set up on Facebook…! I’m a relatively new FB user but even I can use it…like Vicky said, it’s pretty idiot proof which suits me down to the ground!!

Another alternative to setting up a “closed” group (where anyone can see the group & who’s in it but only members see posts”) would be a “secret” group where only members see the group, who’s in it & what members post. Either way approval would have to be sort before anyone new could join but a “secret” group might allay the worries that some may have?

Have we had official notification on closure of this Group site? Is
there someone we can contact. I, for one, would be sad to lose all
the really good advice received on previous blogs, i often refer back,
especially for alternative medical remedies. Lisa

It is really easy to set up as a ‘closed’ group Juliet and you can also either have just one administrator, or several.  I have left the NW Viz Wizz group as open simply to encourage more Viz owners to join us but if we started to have any problems, it is only the click of a button by an admin to make the group ‘closed’.  I really do think it would be worth opening a group on Facebook and if it doesn’t work well it can always be moved.

I'm concerned about the idea of closing off breed discussion groups
just because of paranoia about sites like Facebook.

As long as you take reasonable care over settings, it's only common
sense and any regular users here would be happy to help new users,
it's as safe to have an open site as a closed one. I'd hate to think
how we'd have got on as owners, then breeders, without the help of the
discussion groups. In fact, it was pretty hard to get help in the
early days as access was so slow, and we were put off by the way the
Clubs and forums were so hard to get in to.

We need to be totally open. That way, prospective or new owners can
find the community easily.
