Hi All,
I am looking for a bereavement poem that i used to have. I thought it
was called the rainbow bridge but having googled it, it appears not.
It was as if written by the animal and said that it thanked the owner
for making the difficult decision for pts, remembering the good times
etc etc. The poem i found today called rainbow bridge is not the one i
am thinking of. Does anybody know which one it is?? I have a friend
who said goodbye to their luncher this week and is feeling really sad/
guilty. His back legs had gone so it was defo the right time.

Would be grateful if anybody could post it for me.

Many thanks

Alex

Hi Alex

~Sorry to hear about your friends lurcher, I'm sure they knew they were
doing the right thing but it doesn't make it any easier does it?!

There is a poem called Beyond the Rainbow, this may be what you were looking
for http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/beyond.htm or
http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/request.htm

There's quite a few "appropriate poems at www.petloss.com, these are just
two, I can't read any more coz their making me cry!!!

Best wishes
Elaine

Hi Alex - This is not a poem, but someone posted it on this site a little while ago and it touched me deeply, so I kept it. It also refers to a rainbow bridge and I hope it offers some comfort to your friend.

Best wishes

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hi Alex

It's always so hard, even when it's the right thing to do, to say au
revoir to our four-legged friends - my heart goes out to your friend &
his/her lurcher.

The two that Elaine suggested are lovely & made me cry too...we'd
obviously been Googling at the same time... I Googled "bereavement
poems for dogs" & came across this one: http://www.pet-loss-matters.com/pet-loss-poem-last-night.html
