Ні війні на Різдво

У дні, коли ми святкуємо народження спасителя людства Ісуса Христа, вся Земля має зануритися у атмосферу тихої радості й любові між людьми.

Його послання "блаженні миротворці" як ніколи актуальне сьогодні, коли люди безглуздо вбивають один одного у десятках воєн по всьому світу. Торговці смертю, командири-м'ясники та пропагандисти ворожнечі упиваються майже диктаторською владою і називають цю дикість "цивілізацією". Але нічого цивільного у цій мілітаризації нема. У цивілізованих демократичних країнах всі ці армії мілітаристичних варварів давно б відправили лікуватися до психолога на групу підтримки анонімних війно-залежних.

Я пишу це після чергового масованого обстрілу мого рідного Києва та інших українських міст російською армією, яка продовжує безжально вбивати моїх співвітчизників, руйнувати наші оселі, позбавляти нас електрики, води та опалення.

Міжнародне бюро миру підтримало заклик Президента Зеленського та німецького канцлера Фрідріха Мерца до різдвяного припинення вогню. Путін, схоже, досі не зрозумів, що він ніколи не завоює Україну, від нього ми поки не дочекалися згоди на припинення вогню. Боже, врозуми його!

І Путін, і Зеленський у своїх нещодавніх інтерв'ю казали, що перш за все хочуть поваги. Якщо б вони поважали своїх людей, вони б не змушували їх вмирати на війні та перш за все не змушували б йти проти совісті тих людей, які віддані ненасильницькому способу життя, повному віри, любові і прагнення приносити користь всім людям, а не чинити шкоду та насильство.

Це стосується кожної країни, що готується до війни і тому страждатиме від війни. Якщо б була рішучість суспільства сказати "ні" війні та повага до права народів на мир, у світі не було б жодної війни. Звісно, є велика різниця між агресором і жертвою, між імперськими амбіціями і гіперактивним націоналізмом, але жодна жадібність до слави та здобичі, жодна конкуренція за примарну абсолютну владу шляхом насильства не варта того, щоб вбивати людей, тим більше масово. І ніхто ніколи не перемагає від масового вбивства та вбивства у відповідь, всі криваві "перемоги" є казками для дурнів.

Є великі і малі країни, багаті і бідні країни, жорстокі та гуманні уряди. Якщо б люди прислухалися до Христа, гуманності та демократії в світі було б більше.

У моїй антивоєнній квакерській проповіді "Лев і теля" я радив позбутися сліпої віри в армію та нагадував, що згідно із книгою Об'явлення настане час, коли лев і теля житимуть у мирі в царстві небесному без всяких армій. На жаль, ця проповідь дуже не сподобалася командиру місцевого ТЦК. Незважаючи на вихідний, у той же день, у неділю 14 грудня, полковник Сергій Калугін відправив мені повістку про "уточнення даних" у помсту за проповідь, ще й з вимогами з'явитися для військового обліку на святий вечір 24 грудня, що є брутальною та протиправною спробою примусити мене змінити мої переконання як квакера та євангельського пацифіста всупереч статті 18 Міжнародного пакту про громадянські і політичні права. Я вже поскаржився на це порушення прав людини Омбудсману Лубінцю і попросив його подбати, щоб в Україні було запроваджено альтернативний облік замість військового обліку для направлення на невійськову службу віруючих, яким совість не дозволяє ставати частиною машини війни.

Наша громада вирішила молитися, а не підтримувати кровопролиття на святий вечір. Запрошуємо усіх охочих на спільні збори 24.12.2025 о 9:00 онлайн для молитви та обміну думками щодо переслідувань за віру і переконання, які вимагають невійськового служіння із захисту України від російської агресії. Будемо ділитися історіями випробувань віри та переконань сумлінних відмовників, ідеями щодо стійкості у вірі та захисту прав людини.

No War on Christmas

On the days when we celebrate the birth of the savior of humanity, Jesus Christ, all the Earth should be immersed in an atmosphere of quiet joy and love between fellow humans.

His message "blessed are the peacemakers" is more relevant than ever today, when people are senselessly killing each other in dozens of wars around the world. Merchants of death, butcher commanders and propagandists of hatred revel in almost dictatorial power and call this savagery "civilization". But there is nothing civil in this militarization. In civilized democratic countries, all these armies of militaristic barbarians would have long ago been sent to a psychologist for treatment at a support group for anonymous war addicts.

I am writing this after another massive attack on the Kyiv city where I live and other Ukrainian cities by the Russian army, which continues to kill mercilessly my fellow citizens, destroy our homes, deprive us of electricity, water and heating.

The International Peace Bureau supported the call of President Zelensky and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for a Christmas ceasefire. Putin still seems to have not understood that he will never conquer Ukraine, we have not yet received his consent to a ceasefire yet. God, please give him a bit of sanity!

Both Putin and Zelensky said in their recent interviews that above all they want "respect". If they only respected their own people, they would not force them to die at war and, above all, would not force to go against their conscience those people who are committed to a non-violent way of life, full of faith, love and the determination to do good for all people, rather than to do harm and violence.

This applies to every country that prepares for war and therefore suffers from war. If there were a determination of society to say "no" to war and respect for the right of peoples to peace, there would be no war in the world. Of course, there is a big difference between the aggressor and the victim, between imperial ambitions and hyperactive nationalism, but no greed for glory and spoils of war, no competition for illusory absolute power through violence is worth killing people, especially on a mass scale. And no one ever wins from mass murder and retaliation, all bloody "victories" are fairy tales for fools.

There are big and small countries, rich and poor countries, cruel and humane governments. If people would listen to Christ, there would be more humanity and democracy in the world.

In my anti-war Quaker ministry "Lion and Calf" I called to get rid of blind faith in the army and reminded that according to the book of Revelation, the time will come when the lion and the calf will live in peace in the kingdom of heaven without any armies. Unfortunately, this sermon displeased a commander of the local Territorial Conscription Center. Despite the weekend, on the same day, Sunday, December 14, Colonel Serhiy Kalugin sent me an order to report for military registration on the Christmas Eve, 24 December, which looks like a brutal and illegal attempt to force me to change my beliefs as a Quaker and a pacifist in violation of Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. I have already complained about this abuse to the Ombudsman Lubinets and asked him to ensure that alternative registration is introduced in Ukraine instead of military registration to guarantee non-military service for believers and other pacifists whose conscience does not allow them to become part of the war machine.

Our community decided to worship, not support bloodshed on Christmas Eve. We welcome everyone to a joint meeting for worship and exchange of views on persecution for faith and beliefs that require non-military service to protect Ukraine from Russian aggression. We will share stories of challenges to faith and convictions of conscientious objectors, ideas on steadfastness in faith and protection of human rights.
