I have downloaded Kubuntu 6.06 and burnt it to a CD.
I was going to install it onto a spare hard disc.

With XP I use a Thompson Speedtouch 330 v4 grey.
I was reccomended to get a ADSL modem router which would be less trouble to
get working with Kubuntu.
Does Kubuntu 6.06 have anything like a Device Manager I saw in Ubuntu 5.01?
In that old distro theSpeedtouch device was present, but for the life of me
I couldn't figure how to get it to work.

I suppose that I might need to ask my ISP for some details I need for the
configuration or either the Speedtouch device or a ADSL router.

A Router works via your standard networking, you should be able to plug it
in and it just work as there is no need for anything but the networking
drivers. Most ISPs are not helpfull as there official line is that they do
not support Linux.
