Hello,

My name is Sachila, and I am a part of the Monash High Altitude Balloon(MHAB) team at Monash University in Australia. We are a student-led group, currently working on lightweight near-space payloads, aiming to build operational, RD discipline and recoverability outcomes.

At present, planning a series of sub-2 kg subsystem test flights, rather than a fully integrated payload. these encompass(not limited to):

- Telemetry and recovery validation
- Thermal Enclosure Testing
- Simple dynamic/actuation tests

We are also exploring the possibility of using a small, standalone muon detector payload, pivotal to enabling scientific exploration. From what we understand, similar detectors have been flown successfully by European HAB teams under amateur balloon constraints.

Our team would appreciate any references, design norms or lessons learned that you consider important for early subsystem flights, particularly regarding payload sizing, suspension, RF practice, and tracking procedures.

If appropriate, we would be happy to continue further discussions in the future once we have gone through initial testing and gained flight data to confirm our design assumptions. We greatly appreciate the open, community-driven spirit that underpins your organisation and the broader HAB community.

Kind Regards,

A bit of a nebulous question.

Its certainly worth reading some of Dave Akerman's posts and blog:

    https://www.daveakerman.com

There is still some useful information on the UKHAS wiki:

    https://ukhas.org.uk

My general advice would be to start small and take small steps. Make a few flights and  learn by your mistakes (there will be a few).

I've amassed quite a few academic papers on HABing - dating from the 1950s onward - if you have a specific area of interest i can dig some out.
