Hi all again,

We’re flying a 350g Hyowee balloon with a 450g total payload. The calculators are saying we need around 1.7cubic metres.
This doesn’t seem to be an easily available size cylinder? A 9.4L claims 1.2 cubic metres

What are people using for the helium source?

Sorry for the novice questions, were just a bit confused 😀

Thanks,

Hi Tom 1.5 - 1.7 cu m sounds about right.

If I was buying Helium I'd get it from Balloon Helium or Adams Gases - depending on the amount of gas and length of time I anticipate keeping the cylinder

My guess is the 9.4L / 1.2 cu m cylinder your talking about is the adams gases 9.4L @ 137Bar is £243.21 inc VAT (plus £55 refundable deposit)

You would do better with the Balloon Helium X-Small Cylinder - 1.81 cu m for £169.20 inc VAT

Hi,

This is exactly what we needed to know, thanks!
Got our maths wrong the first time, so got a bit confused.

Thanks for the links, will get in touch with Balloon Helium.

Cheers,
Tom

Wow - at £243.21 for 1.2 cum that works out at over £200 per cubic meter.

Balloon Helium's 1.81 cu m for £169.20 works out at £93.50 per cubic meter.

Looking back to 2017 the same sized cylinder worked out to less than £50 per cubic meter.

It looks like Balloon Helium are using a mixture of BOC and Air products depots - the price is much higher (£256.99 rather than £169.20) if its from BOC.

So best to find your local Air Products Depot - I can only see BOC working out cheaper if you would otherwise have to travel a long distance.

We’re all sorted now, Balloon Helium ordered same day, picked up from our local Air Products stockist.

Thanks again for the help and links, we would never have found that otherwise.

Launch announcement to follow shortly!

Cheers,
Tom
