Recommended Launch Sites in the UK

Hi,

Myself and a number of colleagues from a manufacturing company are looking to run a HAB project for charity.

We are all pretty new to the discipline, but we have key technical expertise in the majority of the engineering aspects for the project.

We are doing a lot of research, and the information/links provided in this group alone are really helpful.

I had a question regarding launch sites in the UK. Are there preferred locations in the UK (target England/Wales) that are regular locations for launched, based on flight corridors, weather, distance from water etc.?

We were hoping to benefit from the knowledge of the experts to help narrow down a short list of possible launch sites for our project.

I had located this map below, however, I think this is a record of launches, not an indication of good/frequent locations that are used.

Hi Dan

We had the same question when we launched our first balloon last year. You can launch from anywhere that is not close to an airfield. Where is lands is down to the weather on the day.

You can see where upcoming launches are going to be made on http://notaminfo.com/ukmap, just click on an orange W until you see one for a Met Balloon launch with parachute descent.
