Some preliminary info about a expected launch next week - probably Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday depending on winds and weather.

There will be 2 radio trackers one on 434.250MHz the other on 434.075MHz - more details to follow.

Hi Folks,
Some details for tomorrow - two flights:

XABEN42 - callsign XABEN0 - 434.075MHz - 425Hz shift 50 baud 7 bit ASCII

XABEN43 - callsign XABEN1 - 434.250MHz - 600Hz shift 50 baud 7 bit ASCII

Theoretical launch time is 11:30am - but might be on the usual drag.

Its going to be a bit hectic tracking 2 payloads so listeners would be most welcome.

Hi guys - both flights now recovered:

XABEN42 (callsign XABEN0) was up a tree - fortunately within reach of my telescopic pole and hook - a quick grapple and tug got it down in short order.

XABEN43 (callsign XABEN1) landed in a small holding field - fortunately just missing a small lake and fenced off from the nearby goats. Unfortunately I couldn't get it back until today - so it spent the night being lightly drizzled with rain. A 4 hour round trip to pick it up today :-(

Despite the wet conditions all the electronics were OK.

Landing spots were significantly (20km) off from prediction despite being pretty close on ascent rate & burst height. Descent was a bit faster than expected - due to non-clean burst on both balloons. I suspect the landing spot difference was mainly due to the zig-zag flight pattern - requiring a certain amount of balance between the upper and lower winds to cancel out the ground distance.

The payloads were very similar in weight and size, launched at the same time on identical balloons, with as near as I could identical fill. They kept very close together for the majority of the ascent - so close in fact I initially convinced myself that they had become tangled. Both flights carried GoPro cameras - so some good balloon to balloon shots were obtained.

The flights were part of a charity event which goes live in a few weeks - more details then. The event should answer the age old question of Life the universe and everything ;-)

Many thanks to all that tracked - it really helped not having to worry about receiving both flights.
