Hi all,

I'm running the VOCAL BALLOON project at Camden Art Centre (London), and we intend to launch a balloon on Saturday, 6th June at approximately 10:00 UTC / 11:00 GMT / 12:00 CEST from North London.

The balloon and payload combination gives a predicted burst height close to 28,000 m, with a total flight time of 2 hours and 40 minutes. Due to the potential landing areas, exact details are subject to alteration, but the general principle applies, as you will well know.

The DIY tracker will be transmitting via:

• HorusBinary v3 on 434.713 and 437.600 - VCLBLLN

• LoRa UKHAS text format, mode 2, on 432.662 - VCLBLLN-L

The chase vehicle will be receiving on at least LoRa, and potentially HorusBinary via FunCube/SDR on a laptop. It should also be running chase car mode.

PS. This is my first time as Launch Director, so please be kind if there are any timing drifts. As you might remember/have seen from my previous thread, I had a lot to catch up on, but some incredibly incredibly kind community members here have been assisting me, so just wanted to acknowledge that and show my gratitude.

PS2. The on-site Technical Director has launched before, and there is back office support from Kevin Minion.

Kind regards,

Ayşe Köklü

Good to hear it's proceeding nicely.

Follow the checklists and remember, luck is not a factor!

Dear UKHAS community,

We had a successful launch yesterday, and I would like to thank everyone in the community who received the tracking transmissions and followed us through the waves. Our flight objectives were achieved, and we are very pleased with the outcome. Our target was 28 km, but we reached 29.5 km; we also retrieved the payload without conveniently and now have the footage from the journey.

As some of you may remember, I will be working with the young people participating in Camden Art Centre’s Transformative Futures programme in London to compose a soundtrack for the journey. We will exhibit the film on 4/5 July at Camden Art Centre as part of the Take Over, and I would like to invite you all to it: https://camdenartcentre.org/whats-on/transformative-futures-takeover-4

As far as I'm aware, this is the first time a HAB has been launched in the context of an arts institution free education programme with young people; It is brilliant to bring art and STEM together, so you are all cordially invited if you happen to be in London.

Best wishes,

Ayşe

Congratulations on your flight Ayşe!

Greetings from the H.A.B * team which has done some similar flights to yours (but a while ago now)

In 2010 we took two high school student competition winners to Black Rock desert to perform a series of balloon and rocket launches.
(so that's young people and STEM - but not art)

In 2016, we did a gallery exhibition and workshop at the B.O.M gallery in Birmingham based on our 2010 floghts (so that's art and STEM - but not young people)

In 2019 we did some further flights from Mount Saana in Finland, as a workshop for a group of artists. This was exhibited at BOM again 2021 and also at the Solu Gallery in Finland.
That one also had a schools component (I did an online talk to some students about astrobiology)

The above is all on:

Best wishes

Oliver

Thank you, Oliver! Great to hear from you and meet you, even if virtually.

Ah, I hadn’t come across (your) H.A.B. before, so thank you for this introduction. All of the projects sound brilliant and I look forward to looking at your website closely.

It would be great to connect at some point in the future.

Best wishes,
Ayşe

Will it be online for those that are out of range of London?
