Hi all,

TheThingsNetwork (TTN) has just activated their new "v3" stack  (it's currently at "v2").
This means that the ttnhabbridge software in its current from will break sometime in 2021 Q3 (I don't know an exact date yet), when their "v2" infrastructure will be switched off.

There is a migration path for nodes, gateways and applications:
* nodes using v3 need to be registered on a different console, at a different URL
* applications (like ttnhabbridge) need to be updated to be able to handle some new data formats, I will work on that soon, to support both the old and the new infrastructure.
* gateways will eventually move from v2 to v3, traffic received by v2 gateways will be forwarded to v3 but will not include a GPS location of the receiving station, so this makes it a lot less useful for ttnhabbridge: you can track the balloon but not know by who or where it was received. Also gateways on v3 will not forward data back to v2.

So what this means is that TTN balloon trackers currently registered through the v2 console will stop working in Q3 2021. Gateways are expected to slowly migrate (and migrated last) from v2 to v3.
Once everything is over to v3, I expect that things will work again.
In the mean time things will be tricky.

With kind regards,
Bertrik

Replying to myself:

I just updated the ttnhabbridge source code with initial support for TTN stack "v3", but haven't been able to test it thoroughly yet.
So things are coming along at least with the ttnhabbridge application.

To use the ttnhabbridge, you can either use:
a) a TTNv2 application, you can only receive telemetry using V2 gateways
b) a TTNv3 application, you can only receive telemetry using V3 gateways

In April 2021, TTN v2 will go into "read-only" mode, you won't be able to create new applications or new devices in the TTN console.
In September 2021, the TTN v2 stack will be turned off.

This leaves apps like ttnhabbridge a bit hanging, we need v3 gateways to be able to receive station information with coordinates.
There are only very few v3 gateways at this moment, as far as I know.

With kind regards,
Bertrik Sikken
