Hi all,
Does anybody read Gamestm? It's a monthly specialist gaming
magazine. Last month it had an article on women in the gaming
industry, which was basically an interview with 3 women.

I would be interested in people's thoughts on it! One of the women
said she'd never encountered any sexism and I got the impression she
trying to fit in with the male centric culture at her workplace and in
the industry - deny there's a problem and become one of the lads sort
of thing.
I've not got the magazine to hand right now or I'd dig out her name.

For the record I am not a gamer, my boyfriend is and he gets the
magazine delivered. i just read the odd article because I'm
fascinated by specialist magazines, and obviously this one caught my
eye.

I like gaming, but try and avoid gaming magazines and basically everything about gaming culture (with the exception of the video reviewer 'Zero Punctuation')

Cerise is an excellent gaming magazine for/by women http://cerise.theirisnetwork.org/

I presume your avoidance is down to the sexism within gaming culture?
As an outsider looking in I can honestly say that gamestm seems to be
a reasonably intelligent magazine that doesn't objectify women. It
doesn't go out of it's way to attract women readers specifically, it
just writes about games.
Having said that, it seems that the majority of games featured and the
adverts are just outright ludicrous.
I shall have a look at Cerise. :)
