Friends,

We had our second Tv show this morning, again courtesy of our Stars of this project, Yvonne Okwara & Sophia Wanuna.

The panel was made up of Pastor Gowi Odera, Stella Nganga ... the corporate story-teller who helps market Coca Cola in 30 countries; that is when she is not preaching from Kenya's national anthem :-) ... and myself; (standing in for Lorna Irungu who wasnt able to make it this morning & will be representing us in the next show). Sophia Wanuna did a splendid job of hosting ... & really; Gowi & I agreed Stella was the star panelist! If you don't believe it please watch the link below

Kudos KTN for this platform; God bless you guys, as he blesses Kenya

Cheers,

Thanks Ngunjiri and indeed everyone making this forum move.  The discussion continues hope by the end of it we will have found more things that unite us other than those that divide us. Enjoy the weekend good people.

Good job people. Stella I feel you on the National Anthem. My ringtone is my daughter singing the anthem which I taught her in English and Kiswahili before she turned 3 a year ago. Every day is a joy hearing the innocence of the future of our country singing the anthem and reminding me to leave this country better than I found it.

Regards,

Omore

Thank you, Ngunjiri and a good morning to you all.

I've been up for a good part of the night listening to and singing our National Anthem…alone in my sitting room

It's hard to listen to this piece and not get misty eyed… you'll understand what I mean when you play and sing along to the attached clip.  Turn up the volume and your voice while you're at it. Repeat x3.

In the midst of everything around us - the good, the bad and downright ugly - we've been entrusted with a heritage of splendour. May we all in one accord, in common bond united, uphold this treasured inheritance with all we've got.

A very Patriotic and blessed Friday to you all.

Always and in all ways, Mkenya Daima….

My good Lord!!!

Pst Gowi's challenge to the media to stop making ICC bigger than IMPORTANT news like the Turkana Aquifer is soooo on point! Media single handedly marginalized the Turkana people further by ignoring such a fundamental discovery!

Media want to make money I agree, but is there a chance that they can get back some moral fibre, like they did during the elections, and make what is important for the country what is given prominence other than ICC!?

Just wondering!

Kind regards,

Mwaniki

Mwaniki:

I don't buy the argument that Kenyan media abdicated its responsibility to inform the public about the water find in the northern frontier. That was a top news item in many a bulletin on TV, Radio and on Print. If local media gave it that much prominence, how then can one claim KE media 'marginalized' residents of Turkana by 'ignoring' that story?

The following links are from one media house alone [NMG], published over several days.

The evidence, in this case, contradicts your claim above.

The ICC process right now is more important that a few million cubic liters of water locked thousands of meters below ground, with a government incapable [so far] of committing resources to exploit it.

Granted, the fact that the ICC story so far has been dominated by the narrative of a country's supposed sovereign rights [never mind that these are individuals being tried in a court we willingly signed up to], weakens my argument to some extent. But that said, the ICC has far greater proximity and relevance to the entire audience Kenyan media houses serve, compared to finding a massive underground aquifer in a place successive governments have repeatedly avoided investing in.

That was a superb show! The panel was clear minded and very eloquent. And Yes Stella was the chocolate in the middle of the 'croissant' :-)
Please keep these conversations going. I know as fact, very many civil servants watch these morning shows.
Even in the hospitals the morning shows are watched.
Looking forward to the Kiswahili versions. And hopefully such shows will reach Prime time and online catchment spots like google and Facebook.

Well done Ukenya!

Hellos,
Let me start by welcoming myself to the forum.
And yes, that was a great show. We need to keep these conversations going on...
From my experiences with Inter-Ethnic Forum (in which Kikuyus For Change, now Change Associates was a prominent player) just having conversations amongst ourselves is a great place to start...

Hi Ramah,

It's been a minute!

Actually you are right! Remember the saying "water is life"? In Kenya, politics is life... water comes a distant second! Or maybe even third... the all mighty shilling would probably come in second!

BTW out of the aquifer stories who's links you have kindly provided, which one made it to the headlines? Every day this week ICC has been headlines on all newspapers. Some journalists even went as far as tempting the law by trying to unmask the identities of witnesses. I know I know they denied it but that's besides the point. We cannot put it past them not to have tried it...

The balance of responsibility of media vs making money is an old argument that we cannot exhaust here but if we were more positive and more united and used our mouthpieces with moral responsibility then Kenya would be a more conscientious and homogeneous society. That is my take!

Kind regards,

Mwaniki

What does it mean to be Kenyan?

Following the recent attack at Westgate and seeing the Oneness, Brotherhood, Love and Unity shown across the country, is more than words can say.
Kenyans have come together beyond class, race, colour, tribe, or religion to show the true Kenyan Spirit...Ukenya in Action!
By giving blood, tea, food, umbrellas, counseling, or even the young men who provided entertainment while others queued to donate blood...it has simply been overwhelming.

My request to you Ngunjiri and all others who work in the media fraternity is...
Please keep these pictures somewhere very safely. Let them be preserved in our annals of history. Whenever we think of discord or anything that could cause us disunity, may these pictures serve to remind us, that if we can come Together in times of grief and distress...we need to shed off that illegitimate demon that takes over us during elections.

As one blood donor said today when asked if he had lost a loved one in the attack and why he was at Kencom, this was his reply...
"Kila Mkenya, ni mpendwa wangu"

May this be our mantra, TODAY and EVERYDAY...for as long as we all shall live!

Mkenya daima,

Winnie Maru
