Friends,

What started as an idea ... to do 10 #ukenya@50 Tv shows ... has actually come to be! The 10th KTN show is tomorrow; between 7am & 8am as usual, and we are not yet done!

We really must thank KTN & the Standard Group for making these shows a reality; and specifically Yvonne Okwara who run with the thought, and Sophia Wanuna, who has become the face of the Ukenya show as the host of each (and the reservoir of knowledge, having been the constant, on all the shows so far!)

To mark the 10th show we are shaking it up a bit, and we will have a different kind of Kenyan-of-influence; Kenya's leading Artistes. The discussion tomorrow is 'The Role of Artists in Promoting Ukenya'. We we have 'DNA', (of the Banjuka Fame/Maswali Ya Police), 'Amani' (Hands Across the World collabo with R. Kelly, among other hits) and Refigah (Boss at GrandPa Records). The lovely Sophia Wanuna will be hosting as usual. Catch it if you can; we will work at putting up the link asap.

Links to the shows so far:

We are still missing the 6th show which was on 'Cohesion' & Ukenya, where we had Dr Wambui Waithaka, Ken Okoth & Dr Rev Njuguna. We will follow up and share as soon as we can get it up.

Cheers

This was quite an enlightening show. Didn't know much about the music industry...I feel musically knowledgeable now.

The issue on our values as Kenyans and how we promote that in Music really stood out for me.
We complain about Piracy...question is, what values do we hold dear?

Good work Ngunjiri, and as my friend Ronnie Osumba would say...Onwards, Onwards ;)

Good day to y'all,
@maruwinnie

Surely a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. A few people and a chat over coffee barely a year ago and today Ukenya is only a few shows away from Kenya@50. Truly amazed. Totally inspired.

Hi All,

When Ngunjiri mentioned having a talk show around this conversation on TV, I immediately thought this would be a great conversation to have on our breakfast show.

However, even I did not imagine it being this impactul and influential.

I am proud to be part of this initiative.
Our music and culture is so much a part of who we are as a people. It's not just about whether our musicians represent nationhood through their music, but also how we treat them and their products, that shows our true values as Kenyans. The state of our arts and culture industry, it's growth and the level of appreciation we give to them, is a reflection of our value system. Do we support each other?

These were some of the critical questions that were raised on the show today.

I look forward to more engaging conversations around our nationhood.

Regards,

Yvonne Okwara,

Hellos,
It's been great being part of #UKenya having been part of the initial discussions on this. Seeing it move from an idea into a National conversation has been inspiring.

Thanks to Ngunjiri and team. Hopefully, we can carry on these conversations to a wider audience even past the Kenya @50 celebrations.
