Good Morning Friends,

First I would like to congratulate Hussein Mohammed for his appointment by the President, as the head of PR/Communications for the revamped Kenya@50 National Celebrations Steering Committee. Well done bro!

One of the advantages of having 'big people' on this team! [:-)] is that the conversations we have here can then help someone like Hussein add value to the work he is doing at the Kenya@50. We are already discussing with him how the idea of the Tv & Radio conversations we initiated last week with the help of another of our stars! ... KTN's Yvonne Okwara can help the committee. (BTW I am waiting for the link of this show to go up and i will share it with the group).

Regarding the #Ukenya Breakfast Show on KTN we must thank Senator Martha Wanjira & CCTV Business Anchor Ramah Nyang for joining me at Panari Hotel for KTN's pioneer Breakfast Show. I also want to specifically thank Yvonne & Sophia Wanuna and their team, for making it happen; and giving us a platform to move this conversation onto mainstream media. We expect this will continue over the next couple of weeks so we will be calling some of you, our other forum members, to continue the conversation where Martha, Ramah & I stopped last week. We are also working to have the first radio conversation on #Ukenya sometime later this week; again members here are our human resource as discussants :-)

Meanwhile Hussein will hopefully keep the rest of us informed on the plans for Kenya@50 and where we can help. Let us also take this opportunity to share thoughts and ideas for the Committee's consideration, now that we have him with us.

Cheers,
N.w

Thank you Bwana Ngunjiri for the kind words.

Congratulations to you and the rest in this team for indefatigably championing our national agenda. The Kenya@ 50 steering committee was only re-constituted last week and members are working round the clock to deliver a campaign expected  unite our country and propel us to new heights both locally and internationally. The discussions in this forum shall undoubtedly add tremendous value to our mutual cause. Since time is a luxury item in this regard, I  hereby wish to propose that a structured concept be presented to the steering committee highlighting specific areas of collaboration. I shall be able to guide the process thereon.

Kind regards,

Hussein Mohammed

Thanks you Hussein for your update.

I have a question to you and your team. Is the Kenya@50 celebrations a Kenyan affair or a Jubilee government affair? Are there plans to involve and incorporate those who do not necessarily support the current regime (I being one of them) but are still Kenyans by birthright??

Regards,

Edwin Kiama

Congratulations to Hussein Mohammed. I like the part where Hussein mentions unity and cohesion related matters will form a core part of this celebration and reflection. As a deeply divided nation we have the opportunity to make our 50th Anniversary moment a time when we look back at our successes but mostly our failures and begin to set things right, lifting up our brothers and sisters who are wrongfully disadvantaged, and speaking hope to the future of the nation....custodians for future generations.

Hi Edwin,

My brief is very clear and it is important that I share this with you. They are;

1.       Effectively communicate the fact that this is a national project for all Kenyans, devoid of any political, tribal, racial or religious biases.

2.       Secure positive public buy in  and participation among local citizens, corporate entities, regional and the International community.

Those are my TOR’s in brief and I have shared them with this group because I cannot achieve any of these objectives without the support of the majority if not all of you. The universal message and campaign shall get clearer as we start rolling out the activities but in short, we are very clear that each and every Kenyan should and must participate in celebrating our 50 years of independence. I hope I have answered your queries in those so many words.

Regards,

HM

Hi Hussein

Firstly let me congratulate you for your new role and wish you all the best.

I also wish to confirm to you that you will have our support as you lead us in this initiative to ensure that Kenyans and friends of Kenya celebrate this remarkable achievement. We must make this not just a success but a memorable event for many years to come. This event is for all of us. No politics or sides as we celebrate this.

I am currently in Brussels for ACP- EU joint parliamentary assemble (ACP =Africa, Caribbean  & Pacific) and had the opportunity to meet with the Kenyan diaspora in Belgium. They really want to be part of this big event and I want to suggest to you that you should get in touch with our big embassies in Europe and elsewhere to ensure that this event is celebrated in equal magnitude out there. I see this event as a perfect opportunity to sell the brand Kenya out there and attract investments and tourists.

Thanks

Hon. Abdikadir Aden

Dear all,
I take this opportunity to join in congratulating our brother Hussein Mohammed on his appointment. Indeed I have no doubt that this task and role is befitting you.
I encourage us all to recognize that the mandate to make Kenya @ 50 s success story lies with all of us.  We should purpose to support this initiative 110%.  Ultimately it is the people of Kenya who carry the Kenyan Brand.  It is the people of Kenya who succeed or fail in making a statement that this celebration means that despite of or inspite of the challenges that we have faced or face as a Country we always get up and keep going.  Each of us has a definite and defined 'area of influence' and this is the time to begin to see what we can do to gear up towards celebrating this great Nation.  We need to come up with simple ideas that cause our minds to focus on the great things that Kenya is.  One very simple one that I have chosen to do is to ensure that every day towards the celebration, I have an item of clothing or a pen or any other item that has one of the colours of the National flag and I tell at least one person what that colour means to me and to Kenya.  Really simple, but guess what - every day I 'proactively' celebrate Kenya and my team mainly comprising of generation 'Y' get to talk about even the Kenya they did not know.
Kenya @ 50 is more then a party celebration and more a celebration of reflection and a celebration of the Kenya we want in the next 50 years.  This is the kind of celebration that has 'deliverables'. Let's ask ourselves what we want the world to say towards and even after the celebration.  This is what will cause us to effectively plan.
I am excited about the opportunity that this group may table suggestions to the committee because herein lie very great minds.
Finally (lest I write a book), I submit that Kenya at 50 belongs to each and every person.  We are all on the pitch.  We all have a role. Define your role and run with it. The world are sitting in the pews watching.  Let's give the world a season that they will never forget.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I speak to myself first.
Have a powerful day.
Wakonyo

(1) Congratulations to Hussein for his appointment.

(2) The discussion was fantastic; well done to all the discussants. I especially enjoyed Ramah's thought about meritocratic treatment as a form of nationalism.

Congratulations to Hussein for the appointment. We are confident not
only in your competence to lead the team that will plan the Kenya@50
celebrations but also in your ability to infuse, involve and
incorporate ideas from Kenyans from different walks of life and
persuasions into this.

Kenya@50 is more than just a big birthday party; the onerous task
before us all is to revive the spirit of our great nation, to create a
year long atmosphere of patriotism, national pride and historic
consciuosness. To reflect on the ideals of our founding fathers, to
focus on what makes us great as a nation and to reflect on where we
may have stumbled even as we look to the future. That's why I see less
of an event but more of a climax of a celebration that will have been
going on. Fewer activities, more processes and ultimately more of a
lifestyle. yani ukenya. That said, All the Best. More than the budget
you have, you have tremendous goodwill.

Meanwhile, I'm very sad that I have not been able to watch the show!!
I'm in China and you know the Chinese government has a less than
romantic relationship with google, youtube etc.. so I really can't
wait to be back home to catch that; though from what I'm hearing I
must thank and congratulate Ngunjiri, Ramah, Sen. Martha and Sophia
for "representing". Intrestingly, there is actually quite a few things
we can learn from these guys in creating a national identity. I also
carried a number of the Kenyan armbands which all run out in a day..

God bless you all, and have a great day.

Sakaja..

Hi Hussein!

Once again congrats on your appointment. Asante sana for the feedback and the clarity. Indeed we do need to be all inclusive in this effort. I agree fully with sentiments expressed by Con Omore and others. I have no doubt that with goodwill you and your team will actualize your TOR.

I look forward to a very successful Kenya@50 event and as always am ready if you should need me in any way.

Thank you Hon. Sakaja, Amb. Yvonne and Mwaniki for your messages.

Hon. Sakaja,

You have hit it spot on. One of the key tasks we have before us is to
explain to the general public that we are not holding a one day bash at
Kasarani. The team intends to execute exactly what you have so ably
articulated. Sasa ningependa kuomba serikali itupatie hiyo pesa.....hehehe
;-)

Lovely day everyone
