Chris, I'm aware that your preliminary schematic is here:

Do you have a final schematic you could post or simply put a link to it on your nano page.

My nanoKENBAK works fine. The only problem I noticed was that although the device charges OK, the GREEN LED never lit up.
Thanks to the schematic I was motivated to review and see the problem. R30 was 22k instead of 2.2k.
Good opportunity to try my new "Hot Tweezers Mini Welding Station" :-)

I'd switch that back.  The "2.2k" on the schematic is a misprint.  It's supposed to be 22k.  That sets the charge mA.  With a 2.2k resistor you've got it set to 400mA, which is far too much for an LIR2032.
