Remapping BACKSPACE key not working with modifiers

Hey I've been trying to get this to work all day but can't seem to figure it out.

I want to swap the "\" key with the "BACKSPACE" key. I was able to use the "Swap Keys..." option to swap them on the GUI keyboard. But when I install the keyboard to my macbook pro two unexpected things are happening.

The "\" key changes to BACKSPACE but it doesn't work with the modifier keys. Nothing happens. I would expect the normal functions of using Command + BACKSPACE and Option + BACKSPACE to work. In addition using the remapped "\" key doesn't work when I highlight text and then try to use it to BACKSPACE the text.

The other strange thing I noticed was that even though the GUI shows that the BACKSPACE key has been remapped to "\" it still functions like BACKSPACE. 

Can someone help me out with getting these two keys swapped with the full modifier functionality? Thank you

Hi Lucas,

Have you seen section 1.1.2 in the PDF manual – "What Ukelele can’t do" ?

The backspace/delete key is only mentioned in passing there, but you’re clearly operating in the frontier zone of what is possible with keyboard layouts!
