Ukelele Layouts as MacDefault

My apologies if this has already been addressed: Is there any way to make a Ukelele layout service as a default layout? I have no use for any MacOS default layouts and they get in the way, so to speak, for instance when switching layouts using a keyboard shortcut.

At least one of the system keylayouts (i.e. those included in the system) must be active and it is by definition the default keylayout. But one may choose another frequently used keylayout, even if a custom one.
