Hi everyone,

I have noticed that at least on macOS Sequoia the New From Current Input Source option does not copy the icon for system provided layouts. Is this a known issue/limitation or it is just not addressed yet? Thank you.

Cheers,
Yura

Yes, this is known. Since a previous system version (Ventura, I think), the icons are generated on demand, so there is no icon file to copy, nor can you generate one in the new wide format (as far as I know). Annoying to many people, but there is nothing that can be done about it, unless you want to give feedback to Apple.

Hi Yura,

Oh, John just posted the answer.
Anyway:
Currently, only .icns files can be used on custom keyboard layouts, so the recent change in macOS, from flags to letter-based icons, is still out of reach for us.

You can create an icon that looks like the new icons, but it’ll still be a picture.
Which means that it doesn’t adapt to changes in OS language or dark mode, as I think the new icons do.
