Dear Courtney, Mary, and Scottish members
A quick message replying to the two points you raised when Janet and I wrote post-referendum.
First, the money. As I expect you know UKCP only has 230 or so members in Scotland. So I can confidently say that we are already spending far more on public policy issues in Scotland than would become available if we created a Scottish fund in the way you suggest. Tomorrow’s event on its own is costing more than a pro-rata proportion of the UK public policy spending.
Second, official recognition. We have already recognised and authorised a Scottish Public Policy Forum. We haven’t held a referendum on independence for the Forum! But by its actions, UKCP has made clear that it supports greater powers being devolved, and we will not need special constitutional amendments, nor will we need to create an English Parliament for the psychotherapists in Hampstead!
Third, we are open for nominations for the UKCP Board, and it would be great to see someone from Scotland standing. (Although elected, I should point out it is a charity trustee Board, not a representational forum.)
Hope tomorrow’s Forum goes well, and these points, and Mary’s other good points, can be taken up as and when the Forum is ready.

Subject: UKCP in Scotland
Dear Janet, David - and all UKCP members in Scotland
Thanks for both the invitation and acknowledgement.
Whilst I did not vote 'Yes' or 'No' last Thursday (being (a) against divisive partitions and also (b) being in Portugal), I am strongly in favour of both greater devolution and also in greater cooperation.
I therefore suggest - strongly - that a proportion of UKCP fees (paid by its Scottish members) is retained both (i) for the use and benefit of the Scottish members (to be decided by them) and (ii) that a UKCP Scottish Forum is officially acknowledged and empowered to campaign, support, and put forward issues pertaining to the furtherance of psychotherapy in Scotland (or words to that effect).
Yours
Courtenay
