Subject: #NTDSummit17 Day 3: Looking Back, Looking Forward

Hi all,

Yesterday was a big day for the global fight against NTDs!

At the WHO Global Partners Meeting on NTDs in Geneva, diverse partners reflected on past progress against NTDs and planned for the challenges that lie ahead. The event included the launch of WHO's Fourth Report on NTDs, as well as important new commitments from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Government of Belgium, Eisai and others to help beat NTDs.

These announcements have led to a lot of great media coverage, which we hope you’ll share:

?         Tweet a CNN article on catalytic progress against NTDs: Julie Jacobson of @gatesfoundation and Dirk Engels of @WHO discuss the progress made to #beatNTDs: http://cnn.it/2oqQcPC

?         Tweet a BBC News article on why the global NTD effort is one of the biggest public health initiatives in history: Records are broken, progress is made and we are closer to eliminating these debilitating diseases #beatNTDs. Read more http://bbc.in/2pAl9G3

?         Tweet a STAT News article on the partnerships enabling NTD progress: Where did the phrase "neglected tropical diseases" come from and how can we beat them? Learn more at http://bit.ly/2or2Pug

?         Tweet a Nature article on progress against NTDs and challenges ahead: Via @nature: Unless you do something to #beatNTDs, people in poverty will continue to be constrained http://go.nature.com/2oLCfPH

We’ve also captured some of the announcements in sharable materials. Please share as many as you can!

?         Tweet this video about the Guinness World Record for Most Medicines Donated in 24 hours, awarded just two days ago to NTD partners: The campaign to #beatNTDs is 1  for the record books. Literally. More than 207 MILLION doses donated in 24 hours! http://bit.ly/2o5AUEX

?         Tweet this HuffPo op-ed by Thoko Elphick-Pooley, Director of the Uniting to Combat NTDs Support Centre: .@WHO’s decision to integrate #NTD programs across diseases was a game-changer, writes @ThokoPooley of @CombatNTDs http://bit.ly/2onNWtD

?         Tweet about Eisai’s incredible commitment to extend its donation of DEC until lymphatic filariasis (LF) is eliminated: Great news! At #NTDSummit17, @EisaiUS announced its continued support for the elimination of LF. bit.ly/2oLI9jY #beatNTDs

?         Retweet quick facts from WHO’s new report: #BeatNTDs: Unprecedented progress against neglected tropical diseases https://goo.gl/OTWuXk  #NTDs pic.twitter.com/whA06dtNDD

?         Retweet Uniting’s quote graphic by Alexander De Croo, Deputy PM of Belgium: Welcome @AlexanderDeCroo and @BelgiumMFA to the fight to #beatNTDs - A great start to the #NTDSummit2017 http://buff.ly/2oMvn3d

Finally, yesterday evening, Uniting hosted an evening reception honoring remarkable women who have made a significant contribution to NTD efforts in their communities. You can find the full list of award recipients here. Click here to tweet a graphic about the inspiring awardees.

We only have two more days of the NTD Summit left, but that doesn’t mean our #beatNTDs conversation should die down! Remember to check out our NTD Resource Hub for access to even more digital assets, and continue to send us your amazing materials.

Best,
Aanjalie
