Subject: [strategy] Theresa May calls snap election

Hi all,

You've probably all seen that Theresa May intends to hold a snap election on 8 June.

So far we know

* When announcing the election, Theresa May commented on the need for unity at Westminster in order to make a success of Brexit
* There will be a vote in the House of Commons tomorrow. The Government needs a two thirds majority to call the election
* Under the fixed term parliament act, a Parliament is dissolved 25 working days before the general election - I think that should be May 3rd/ May 4th from my backwards counting!
Please post any updates/ intel you have!

Thanks,
Alysa

Thanks so much Aparna for letting us know - any analysis on what impact this will have on the Sunday announcement would be great
When we thought it couldn’t get any more interesting !

Hi Wendy,

This announcement by Theresa May is probably the reason why the DFID announcement came out on Easter Sunday and not at the Partners meeting tomorrow. With regards to the DFID announcement I don't forsee any changes to the funding commitment, but perhaps there is some work to identify the mechanism of distribution for the new financing that lies outside of the Ross Fund commitment that has been allocated to DNDi, FIND and Coalition for operational research for NTDs.
