I received a text from IPSO MORI. Using android I couldn't find a way to
display the telephone number. I am not even sure if it was a telephone
number. I couldn't add it to a contact, nor could I block it other than
by reporting it as spam and possibly incurring a charge according to the
Messages app. Is there away to find an associated number with things
like this? I think it was an SMS but I am not sure. It arrived in the
android Messages app but I have "chat features" switched on.

Try www.saynoto0870.co.uk which will enable you to insert the company name.

For the record Ipsos Mori are a highly respected public opinion
surveyor. If it was <Ipso> Mori then it is likely scam.

You are not supposed to be able to get a named SMS or short number, which one can't reply to, unless you are a legit' organisation - e.g. NHS, Amex, BMW, government etc.

That was it, Ipsos Mori. But I would like to know what number if any the
text message came from.

Like most high volume text messages, it will have been injected into the
SMS centre independently of telephone system, so there will be no number
associate with it.

I see. So that means I cannot add it to a contact because it isn't a
contact. And I cannot block it either. And I cannot reply to it. All I
can do is click on links it contains. What a great system for
spamming. :(

Don't assume that you cannot reply, you <may> in some circumstances be
able to do so.

Have you tried adding it to your phone blacklist?

It says "sender does not support replies" in the messages app.

That's what I was trying to do. The only option I had though was to
report it as spam to google and block it, and it said there may be a
charge.

What I normally do is just block numbers, or add them to a contact which
is blocked.
